Welcome to the other side.
Gotta live with it now I guess. Thabeet better give me 50 blocks a game damnit.
Me too. I guess I am warming to it as I have read his story. As they say, you can't teach 7'3", he has roots in soccer (Olajuwon anyone? he will never be Hakeem, but the footwork learned there should help) and it sounds like he is a great guy. I was kind of hoping we might draft Evans as we need a guy who is fearless at getting to the rim, but I understand why they took him. I have a feeling Rubio will be tough for Minny to sign. I think a lot of teams passed because he would be tough to sign and he does have some question marks, as did everyone outside of Blake Griffin.
But, we need to find a good PF (Lee, Boozer most notably - I would like Lee myself just because of his age and I think he fits better) - not just one for "depth." We need a bona fide NBA stud there. Let's see if Mr. Heisley opens the checkbook - he was willing for Randolph twice (thank God that got nixed twice)
Even though I wanted Thabeet all along. There was really no other way the Griz could have gone here. Rubio would never play here, Thabeet was the consensus #2 rated prospect in the draft. There is really no other prospect that warranted being selected #2, who fills a need for us. I love Reke, but he needs allot of work on his jumper and we don't need another 1/2 guard. Interior defense, rebounding and shot blocking is what Thabeet gives you right away. Hes a great Kid, is almost never in foul trouble which for a big man is a feat in and of itself. He hasn't been playing basketball for very long so he is just scratching the surface of his potential.
What is Ricky Rubio really saying, it looks like to me his agents and his family are doing most of the talking for him, so he does not look like the bad guy in this case. I am so glad the Memphis Grizzlies did not select him with the second pick in the draft. If the Grizz can get a power forward like a Carlos Boozer, Memphis NBA Basketball team will be in good shape, for sure.
I see them moving Gasol to the 4 and letting Thabeet play the 5, which IMO would be a pretty nice tandem.
Can Thabeet go up and down the floor for thirty minutes a game if the Grizzlies are doing the fast break at times during the game? I know he has the stamina for the half court during his college career, and he needs to put a little more weight during his pro career as well. I like Thabeet a lot and I would like to see that lineup for four and five as mentioned previously with those players playing.

Gasol and Thabeet will see limited time together on the floor. Gasol (and for that matter Thabeet) is too slow to see any more than nominal minutes at the four.
Given that Rubio fell to the 5th pick, I don't think the Grizzlies had any other choice at two. It's obvious that between the question marks on the kid and the problems wrt signing him that a lot of front offices weren't that wild about him at the two. And if you weren't taking Rubio, I don't know who else you were going to take at the 2nd pick other than Thabeet.
