You mean like Dirk Nowitzki, Pau Gasol, Drazen Petrovic, Andrei Kirilenko, and Arvydas Sabonis?

Notice most of those guys are big men. Euro guards have not fared as well.

Parker?

We're looking at Rubio, Mayo, Gay, Gasol, and whoever they can get for Conley, plus a ton of cap space, and some of you want frickin' Thabeet?

Allow me to quote a T-Wolves fan:

Quote:So Memphis' backcourt will be Rubio and Mayo?

Wow.

I wish Mayo was still a Timberwolf. I think he's going to be a really fun guy to watch as he develops and improves his moves to the basket.

Him and Rubio together though? Man I'm envious.

Dirk was not hyped up and neither was Petrovic. I'm talking Darko hyped up. Don't get me started on Pau. At best, Pau's the 2nd best player on the Lakers. At best.

I was pointing out that your sweeping statement about European players was without merit. If a player is hyped but turns out to be a bust, it doesn't matter whether he's European (Darko) or American (Kwame). Simply because he's European doesn't make him more likely to be a bust. I'm guessing you believe that because you either haven't seen Rubio play or have very limited viewing of him so your statement is somewhat understandable, but it's still way overstated. All of those players were hyped, some moreso than others but don't get lost in labeling players, but just judge them on individual merit. Have you seen Rubio play? He's terrific.

Manu's done alright for himself as a furriner with Euro experience, and Rubio's playing at a much higher level at a much younger age than Manu was playing at before coming to the NBA.

dead center correct...

IF they want Thabeet, can Gasol play and guard the PF position...hmm

If Rubio can come immediately, I'd probably do what is suggested: draft Rubio, package Conley and the late first rounder for someone who can contribute immediately, and go after someone with the cap space.

I think either Rubio or Thabeet would be good picks. I don't know much about Rubio except everything good that has been said about him. I would hope we would work a SMART trade first, but if not take Rubio or Thabeet.

It would be dumb to get Curry with a No.2 pick. They could trade down to a 10-15 and still get him. They could trade way down and get a No.1 pick in next years draft. If they had 2 early No.1 picks in next years draft they could be set.

I knew we could count on you to post this

Since everyone else except for the few grizzle nuts seem to know they will be gone in a few years I figured I would shine a little light for you guys.

either jennings or curry at 2 would be a terrible idea...therefore I expect it to happen

We really need thabeet. If the grizz had starting five of Mayo, Gay, Gasol, Thabeet, and get some slapdick point guard in there to give the ball to the stars we will be solid.

I haven't watched a lot of tape -- but that you tube video posted in this thread is just nick calethes with a european jersey. People in this town don't want to watch another goofy white guy, we need a star.

I am with Big Pete, trade for a big man and get Flynn from Syracuse

He's not that smart his middle name is Jenius. Yes he thinks it's spelled correctly.

As good as Rubio is they don't need another point guard. Unless they decide to trade some players (I'm hoping they trade Marc Gasol).

Thabeet will be a disaster. No way in hell would I take him #2. I wouldn't take him at #6 but that's just me. #1 would have been nice but #2 gives me alot of material to write about haha. Could get interesting this summer. Lots of options for the Grizzlies here. As much as I wanted the #1, #2 is looking good right now also....unless we draft Thabeet.

Good call. Trade away the best Center on the team. And start who? Darko? Yeah right. He's going back to Europe after his contract is up anyways. Trade him if your gonna trade anybody. And yea, I think Marko Jaric is a capable backup at PG. COME'ON MAN!

i agree. From what i have been reading there is a clear number 2 pick and that is rubio. NOTHING excites me after him. If we dont belove in him, then we should definitely trade it.

Am I the only person that would rather have Thabeet than an 18 year old PG?

No your not the only one. I'll take the 7'3 force in the middle who looks to be another Mutumbo type than can own the paint for the next 10+ years. Rubio is a nice player. But PGs aren't that hard to come by. Quality 7 footers don't grow on trees. You don't pass on the chance to get one. Not to mention Thabeet only started playing BBall at 15 and has a ton of upside.

People need to stop comparing Thabeet to Dikembe that is an insult to one of the greatest defenders of all time. Thabeet is a one trick pony in blocking shots and you dont take someone that poorly skilled in offense with the #2 pick.

You take Rubio or Jennings then try and trade for a 4 with Conley and whomever. Or if the clippers are dumb enough to do it and want Rubio badly enough you try and get the #1

Only if you consider Defense, shot blocking and rebounding, one trick. But thats a helluva nice trick to have and one the Griz sorely need. As currently their defense doesn't exist. They don't need a PG and Rubio is far from a sure thing as he is being made out to be.

I dont consider him all that good of a rebounder. I think he gets rebounds b/c he is 7'3" and in college not b/c he is good at the skill of rebounding. Its the same way I feel about Pau Gasol as well. I have two words for you when it comes to Thabeet: Dejuan Blair. And he is going to have to deal with PF twice the size and strength of Blair and I think he is going to get pushed around like crazy.

Just being 7'3" means nothing to me. I put a lot more stock into the instincts and passion which I think Thabeet lacks.
