RE: Insight into why Cal left????
"Our conference affiliation REALLY played a much bigger part of this than we thought."

Bull crap. Our conference was the reason we got high seeds the last four years. No way we wouldn't of had more loses in a big 6 conference thus a lower seed. Cal will find that out this year. Cal left for one reason to sell books for Cal not tickets for the university. The man made in six figures here on outside promotions. He will make ten-fold that in KY. He left for $$$$$

That's because UK as a bunch of DA's. Image the AD figuring out that he can offer Cal a cut of the increase in ticket prices at Rupp and they both make more money. Cal will be everywhere wanting to get a better price for tickets.

Read the thread title in his specific post, and in the one where you quoted him. And in this one.

I never noticed you could do that before tonight. Great idea! 03-wink

It is really terrible that the city with a very high poverty index had to pay him 4 million per year to lose to Mizzou and to blow a lead to KU which is known as the greatest coaching blumble in history.
I wish him the best at UK since he always degraded the SEC. Maybe when Old Mrs calls him "dirty Italian" like they did 4 or so years ago in Oxford, he'll realize what he has entered into. The SEC is ole boy.

Funny! Me, neither! Never bothered to look, I guess!

Rather than start a thread on the Dockery-Finch Board, I posted on the NTR Sports board a link to a WLKY TV interview with our ex-coach. He makes a couple of interesting references to his previous coaching stints. Nothing negative, but nothing specific, either.

If you're aren't interested, then don't go to that thread! 03-wink

So what if he felt the need to pimp the program. He was a VERY well paid pimp.

It's nice to see that our former coach is still as full of himself as he has always been. He had better win big and win big the first couple of seasons or he will be run out of town quicker than he can say "miserables."

I think Cal has tainted our program. He is a weasel. Take a look at http://onlyinmemphis.wordpress.com/ Cal has never run a clean program and he will not change. He is not good enough for UK.

Well, I think Josh Pastner's already outperforming Cal at Memphis recruiting...http://www.collegehoopsvideo.com/2009/06...coach-cal/
Only 8 weeks into it too.

Damnedest thing I've seen.

You know TigerTitan, I was wondering the same thing. I wandered on to this board seeking more news about the re-alignment stories and then look at the Kentucky board postings. I saw this one and a couple of others and was amazed that they have nothing to do much with Kentucky.

This whole thing (and yes I read the whole dang thing) is nothing but the frustrations of Memphis fans over the fact that Calipari left you when he got a chance to move up the ladder.01-lauramac2 And whether you want to admit it or not any coach at a school like Memphis would grab at the chance to move to UK, UNC, Kansas, or even (may their name be forever cursed) Duke, and several others.

Would any of us not welcome a chance to get paid more, with fewer hassles (like fundraising), get greater recognition, on a bigger stage?
I would.

And in all his interviews that I have heard or read, this is as close as I have come to his making a negative comment about Memphis, and I did not take it as being all that negative.

As to whether he did right by you or not ask yourselves this question, "was the program better when he left than when he arrived?" And keep in mind, most coach's contracts have a clause that lets them terminate early if they get an offer to move up, as a chance to coach at a higher level (NBA or NCAA higher level school). Just as Asst. Coaches have the same out if offered a head coaching job.
And so far we are rather pleased with what he has done to bring back the luster that had been hidden under the dust of the past few years. He seems to be what Uk needed, and this year we get to see what he can do with some depth on the bench.

Who knows, maybe we can play against each other late in March, now that would be a real barn burner of a game now wouldn't it? Hope you have a good season.04-cheers

RE: Insight into why Cal left????
I know Cincinnati fans would love to play Kentucky in football and basketball. We could sell out the US Bank arena at 17,500 each year for a basketball game and sell out Paul Brown Stadium at 67,000 each year for a football game. So get with it UK fans. Tell your AD you want to see UK in Cincinnati vs the Bearcats. It would be good for everyone even if UK would routinely lose both games. So if Coach Cal wants to play Cincinnati at neutral cites as the article states, then lets do it.
