MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - After enjoying the greatest single-game performance in West Virginia baseball history on Sunday afternoon, the College Baseball Foundation and Diamond Sports have announced that junior Vince Belnome has been named to the National Allstar Lineup for the week of May 12th.
The Coatesville, Pa., native is recognized for going 6-for-6 with two home runs, nine RBIs and four runs scored in WVU’s 18-3 rout of Cincinnati. Belnome’s six hits mark a single-game school record, while his nine runs driven in tie both Bill Biddle (5/9/1947) and Angelo Onder (5/23/1936) for first on the single-game list.
The junior’s output of hits and RBIs on Sunday is the most in a BIG EAST game this season. Belnome recorded 10 RBIs during WVU’s three-game sweep of Cincinnati, leaving him just three shy of breaking Mark Landers’ 81-RBI season in 1994.
Belnome is second in the nation with 79 RBIs, sitting behind Bryan Marquez of New Mexico State, who shows 80 runs driven in. He also ranks 15th in the country with a .524 on-base percentage.
The designated hitter garnered his 200th career hit in the weekend series, lacing a single up the middle in WVU’s 9-2 victory over the Bearcats in game two of Saturday’s doubleheader. He is among the top three in the BIG EAST in batting average (.429), on-base percentage, hits (81), RBIs, doubles (20) and walks (36).
Belnome is one of 19 players recognized this week, which includes San Diego State pitcher Stephen Strasburg and Missouri’s Greg Folgia.
