High School Recruiting??
I have been reading about the Public vs Private School deal regarding play-offs. I had decided the Public School folks were whiners. Then learned that 2 grand children will be attending CAC next fall, and the costs about knocked me out. Then, today Wally reports the private schools are giving scholarships to athletes. If that is true, You have to assume as private schools they have a legal right to do that. But, I suppose the public schools have a legitimate complaint.

RE: High School Recruiting??
If they are giving scholarships, I hope they are need-based and based upon academic quaifications only. That is the only high school scholarship type I have ever heard of in private high schools.

Except, of course, for "vouchers".

Wally does not distinguish between scholarship based on NEED, ACADEMIC, ATHLETIC, just scholarship. This is probably as gray as gray can be. And the 3 schools, CAC, PA, and Shiloh being private schools are most likely not required to release details. Wally also says recruiting is not limited to private schools.

It's not. Parkview's been doing it for years, using the "magnet school" cover. You don't believe all that talent that Parkview had for years was just a stroke of luck do you? And I'm sure they aren't the only one getting away with it.

Tell a reporter you know to call the schools and ask. While they won't release the names, I am pretty sure CAC would be happy to walk a reporter through their process for helping kids out. I know that they are very sensitive to the issue, especially after Joe Adams mom decided to transfer him to CAC.

Also, a friend of mine sends his kid to PA, and, according to him, about 70% of the kids at PA are on some type of financial aid. But that stuff doesn't sell papers, and requires research, so you won't hear it from Wally.

It is hard to bring private and public high schools together in athletic competition equitably. Any way you slice it, it just isn't apples and apples. One or the other is always going to feel like he is getting the short end of the stick.

RE: High School Recruiting??
I went to Catholic High, and I was there on a need-based scholarship. As far as I know, no one at Catholic was given a scholarship for athletics. So there's one school that has been doing things the right way. I know Father Tribou would NEVER have engaged in such activity!

I'm glad to see that no one has lumped my alma mater with PA...
