Boy, Memphis fans must be pissed
Eric Bledsoe picked UK over Memphis today. Wall, the number #1 point guard (see below) and two of the other top 3 players in the county were leaning or commited to Memphis before Calipari left. The reality is these kids were signing to play for Calipari, not Memphis who is now back to being a midmajor:
Bledsoe signed with Kentucky on Wednesday and proceeded to say the following.
``He (Calipari) told me I’d be his starting point guard.”
Rivals.com has Bledsoe as the No. 3 point guard in the country, but there’s virtually no chance of that happening if Wall – who sources say is leaning towards committing to Kentucky – is playing in Lexington next season.
Wall is the top player in the senior class. He’s nearly a carbon-copy of Derrick Rose.
In fact, multiple NBA executives have told FOXSports.com that Wall would be the first pick in this year’s NBA Draft – ahead of Oklahoma’s Blake Griffin – if he were eligible.
``He’s that good,” one NBA exec said. ``He has a higher upside than anyone in this draft – including Griffin.”
Calipari and Kentucky are a brutal match for the rest of the country. Calipari has already brought Memphis signee Darnell Dodson, ex-Memphis commit DeMarcus Cousins and has managed to keep Kentucky signees Daniel Orton and Jon Hood.
Now, with Bledsoe in the fold and with Wall potentially to follow, Kentucky can be a legitimate Final Four team – especially if Jodie Meeks and Patrick Patterson both decide to return to school after testing the NBA waters.
Don’t be surprised if both players come back, either.
