Call it Irony...Karma...., Cal set his own trap before he even left
Now I know that we were all for C.J. coming here. But we all know that Cal only let him come to garuntee X coming. And even if we were for it at the time, it's still the same type of package deal stuff that we got mad at Baylor for with John Wall and his AAU coach. All that being said, Cal's slimey dealings could very well come back to haunt him, as the fact that he signed CJ is the very reason that X may be coming here still. If X comes, and Meeks stays in the draft, Coach Cal's immediate success will be set back atleast one year at UK. Now just imagine Cousins not qualifying academically....Leaving him almost definately having to land a good class in 2010. And who's to say, an injury here, or a non qualifier there, Coach Cal winning at UK on a big scale may come later rather than sooner. Because he will not have an easy CUSA schedule to hide his short comings as a coach any longer. Coach Cal always spoke of Karma...He left UK to win a championship, wouldn't it be super weird if that's the reason he never wins one??? It could happen...And I hate to say it, I hope it does.

I agree with the idea in its premise but I do not consider signing C.J. slimy at all. Pretty typical stuff actually and I would not use the word slimy and C.J. in the same sentence since he may be a Tiger.

...and what if we win it all this year, while UK makes a deep run in the NIT!

The X/CJ drama and the possibility of them playing for us next year is amazing. The irony I see is that the negative recruiting against JP is that he has no experience, but in his first year he has the chance to land a top talent due to unusual circumstances.
Heck of a way to start a career, X can answer all JP critics in only his 1st season as HC. Recruiting success in the future can only be enhanced by X coming this year regardless of the reason, JP will get credit when X is a lottery pick. Much like the success Cal is currently thriving on from Rose being #1.

This post reminds me of the Kentucky fans. Remember the night Calipari went to Kentucky?? Facebook pages, ESPN boards, MT.org's boards, Rivals, etc were full of fans loving Calipari and saying "National Championship next year is OURS"
Well, if things continue the way they are looking...it looks like they will be eating their words and Calipari may have a "For Sale" sign or two in his yard sooner rather than later.

I don't pretend to know what went on behind the scenes, but I do believe that CJ came to Memphis of his own volition, paid for by the Yankees, and to smooth the road for little brother Xavier, whom I also believe had already decided he was coming here. Was CJ recruited? I don't think so. He's a walk-on. You welcome any walk-ons, whether they ever pan out or not. But in CJ's case, it was a harbinger of Xavier coming. Otherwise why would CJ choose Memphis? And wasn't he already injured when he got here, and aggravated the injury again in practice? He could have red-shirted at any school and still been eligible to transfer and play next year with little brother anywhere.

I'll celebrate when there is actually something to celebrate. Right now it's more like 'karma might be a *****."

Being redshirted does NOT make you elegible to play the next year if you transfer.

RE: Call it Irony...Karma...., Cal set his own trap before he even left
I've said it a few times and I will repeat it again. Cal has MAJOR pressure to do well right away regardless of what he says. As things stand right now; Cal only has 2 real D1 players for this year in Meeks and Patterson, and a 3 fringe players in Stevenson, Harris and Liggins. In essence, Cal is going to need a LOT of young guys to come in and produce right away if he is going to have a good season. He is at the mercy of the young guys taking time to get their bearings.
Even if Cal manages to keep Meeks, and Patterson, and signs Wall, he will for sure lose all 3 of them after this year and will lose Stevenson, Harris and probably either Cousins or Orton (maybe even both). When you consider that Cal didn't recruit 2010 very hard because he was waiting on 2011, AND 3 of his 2010 targets were Memphians JJ, Black and Wade...well you get the picture.
Cal needs to win right now. Cal is hanging by a thread. If Meeks stays in the draft, or Patterson stays in the draft, or Cousins doesn't qualify, or Wall doesn't come, he is in major trouble. Any of these 4 very possible situations comes to fruition, Cal is looking at a very rough 2 years.

Sounds very plausible, maybe he should have just stayed where he used
to be an icon instead of facing the blue mob 24/7.

RE: Call it Irony...Karma...., Cal set his own trap before he even left
I know this will sound shallow, but Im liking the new energy of Josh. (i.e. glad Cal left.) I was a bit tired of the job search thing every year, you know, that thing Cal said he thought we were "used to". Cal starting setting the stage for this potential problem soon after he took the job. On the Dan Patrick show he said it would take him 4 years to "get it right". and that if KY wanted immediate results, "he was not the guy"... oddly enough, the spin doctor will obviously take credit either way, if he gets the recruits... he will say its all about the kids and they signed with him and not Memphis... if he loses them to us, he will take credit by saying, "see, i told you, those players should stay in memphis... one thing for sure, we wont let Josh get the credit for saving the recruits... we will know better... Go Paz!!!!!
