Back In Texas, A More Simple Life for Bush
Outstanding article by Eli Saslow:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/con...02714.html

I don't care if you loved or hated the man, it's hard to argue that he could've been more dignified, accessible, helpful, or respectful of President Obama during the transition process. Personally, I don't think history will totally vindicate Bush's low points as POTUS, but people have a hard time with perspective sometimes, especially as political observers and voters, and I think he'll be looked at somewhat more favorably in the future than he is right now. Just my two cents. Anyway, enjoy the article, though it is a long one.

Bush made the transition process much smoother than Clinton did. He could have made it harder for Obama to walk in and do the job but he didn't. For his efforts, Bush gets to hear Obama speak almost daily how his reminder tha he didn't create the problems of the world and Bush did.

And afterward, after Robert spews his hatred for Bush, Bush would extend his hand for a shake and wish Robert the best for his future. Robert on the other hand would trip the detonator on his vest.

I still think a fair review of history will vindicate Bush's legacy.

However I do not have any illusions that a fair review of history will be applied.

I am happy for Bush. I try not to practice the hate of an individual as some do here. The office is hard guys, and you can't make everyone happy. When Obama is finished I will be just as happy for him when he can just sit down and relax. Hopefully at that time we will sit back and say things weren't as bad as we painted them.

I'm on the same side as you are on this, but it's hard to imagine any way of making the job difficult than leaving with an economy that is both headed toward the lowest point in nearly a century and in the perfect state for the "new new deal" recreation of FDR's presidency ... that's a lot worse than peeing on the computer keyboards in the White House or whatever shenanigans the Clinton administration did. (in perspective, I'm not sure that the economic situation didn't help Obama by making his agenda easier to implement). And, no, I don't concede that the current mess is entirely "Bush's fault".

RE: Back In Texas, A More Simple Life for Bush
You have to look back 25 years and see the full impact of policies to judge a president. So many decisions are long term and its often overlooked while in office. Case in point was George Bush Sr. He left office with will low approval rating too. Looking back 17 years and you see a lot of good the man did in those 4 years. He bit the bullett on the savings and loan crisis in the short term instead of passing it on to the next guy. That cost him re-election but it let the country return to prosperity faster. GHWB foreign policy decisions proved to be very wise as he got in and out of the gulf war very fast. GWB had a must tough job going into Iraq and overthrowing Huessein, but he had the guts to do the job that Reagan, GHWB and Clinton did not. He could have took the easy way out and launched a couple cruise missiles at a tent like Clinton did at Osama Bin Laden and they stayed popular with a booming economy at home. Instead he made the difficult decision of tackling the problem head on. What kind of legacy will Bush have. It likely will be the war on terror and how the country fought back against the terrorist and hostile reigemes. The creation of Homeland security and security at airports will likely be what most people see. Air travel is now safer because of the changes made under GWB after 9/11.

Nixon going to China probably had one of biggest impacts in the global economy looking back 35 year later. Today China is a major economic power trading with the USA. Nixon had other problems, but opening up China exploaded the global economy. Had China remained isolated, you wouldn't have had as strong a global economy.

.

Robert, you can ALWAYS go to Crawford Texas and "Throw Some Shoes" over Bush's Fence .....

I am sure the MSM would run over 10,000 Tea Partiers trying to get to just you all out there in Lone Wolf Mode and a tossin' your self some shoes like a Big Dawg ....

Now that's Good Old American Patriotism, throwin' shoes ....

I remember learning about how George Washington won a Critical Battle in the Revolutionary War by having his men "Beat the Enemy Down with Battery after Battery of Toss'd Shoes" ....

It was the Turning Point in the War ya know ???

Toot Toot Robs ....
