The old ball-talking, dirt-smoothing, rapid-fire pitcher is dead. The guy had talent and was very entertaining to watch. RIP

I grew up going to games at tiger stadium and I still remember watching "the Bird" even though I was only 4 or 5 years old. I remember trying to imitated his delivery to the plate. How fitting that this eccentric died in some bizarre accident. You just knew he was not the type to die quietly in his sleep of old age.

Does anybody here read Randy Wayne White's series starring Doc Ford? If so, then you know the character Tomlinson was based on The Bird. He and Randy Wayne were buddies and toured Cuba together playing baseball and distributing equipment for the kids.
