Kentucky's Catch 22
Kentucky, you don't realize it yet but you have a "catch 22" scenario headed their way. As we all know, John has a seven year $31.5 million contract. Yesterday it was reported that your Kentucky AD seemed relieved that the ESPN/ SEC deal will begin next fall. He also stated that the administration would probably use part of the tv deal and merchandising proceeds to pay a good portion of traitor John's contract. Oh, was there a concern? If John is successful in the early part of his contract, you're going to find that he will redefine contractual terms by "playing" you and the market for more money and contract extensions at the end of each season. Remember, if little ole Memphis can offer him MORE money to stay, other universities can do the same. He's done that very same thing to Memphis at the end of each season for the past 5 years while waiting for his “dream job”. Of course, if he is unsuccessful, he’s gone in two to three years with a huge buyout and your search begins anew for another coach. Remember, Gillispie’s buyout is reportedly $6 million. The lust for money dictates that if traitor John is successful (whatever), it will eventually cost Kentucky closer to $40-$45 million at the end of the initial seven years contract. Whooops, their goes another set of increased season ticket prices and seat licenses. I mean you know, "the program has to keep it's status as the number one program in the country!" he will say. What will Kentucky do to his contract after seven years, increase the millions currently being thrown at him. For your sake, I hope (not) that he does win a national championship for you. The nation will be watching.

Good points...assuming Cal does win...they only think they have him for 31.65 million. Dream job....what a crock.

Uhh... He passed up substantially more money to go there. Who is he going to play against UK to ask for more? The only catch is what happens if he doesn't win there. Realistically, that ain't happenin.

I agree that realistically he will win at uk. But within the seven year term of his contract, there WILL be coaches that will use John's salary as leverage to increase theirs. Let just say that in three to five years, there are several coaches making substantially more than John and during that time he wins it all, traitor John may not leave but he will put it out there that "this is where I want to be" once again. LIke drooling fools, the Kentucky AD will give in to protect his legacy and the fans will pay more for the privilege of watching their almighty cats play. Remember they both have HUGE egos. Who knows maybe another mecca of basketball might come calling, a different UK. I'm just glad that we don't have to go through these shenanigans anymore. By the way, I posted this on Bleacher report following a UK article and I'm still waiting on a response from a Uk fan. I don't see many coming anytime soon.

He will win there, but with the talent he is bringing in next season the fans will be expecting a title. Not saying he isn't gonna pull it off, just that it would of been easier here next season. To begin with, here you would have had half the team teaching the new guys the offense over the summer in pickup games, there none of the players know the offense. And second they will have no one on there team that has advanced in the tourney for leadership.

HAHAHA I think we will take our chances, there is more money in KY that has not even been tapped into yet. Look I understand you are still bitter and thanks for the heads up, but we have been through this before, remember slick Rick? he invented this type of nagotiation and manipulation. Trust me when coach P left to go to the Celtics it was sad but noyhing like what you guys are going through, but only 4 years later he comes back to coach our in state hated rival, so we know what we are getting. You really have to use these guys just as much as they use you to get what you want. That is why if you win here we will pay you and give you all the resources you need to do that, but if you can not get it together then we will boo you out of the state. Some say we are hard on coachs, maybe but we give you all you need to compete and we know Cal will get what he wants money wise so we will get what we want or you are outa here. See 2 way street
