Paying for membership??
I received an email that membership in the Red Riot next year is 5 dollars.

Who thinks this helps NIU market their program to students??

Is a punchcard really the key to increased attendance??

Is anyone here still involved or has athletics taken over??

RE: Paying for membership??
$5 is nothing more than something to say "Hey look I am somewhat committed"

I have lost so much time to other organizations that I am barely involved any more. Me and Ryne never really got much help on it and noone besides this board really supported it much besides at football games (where we really wern't meant for lol)

They keep in contact with me and pass their ideas by my all the time though. Sometimes I attend meetings and things to help out. This they did pass by me and I thought it was a good idea. We had been talking about this since 2 years ago. We have something like 2,000 members every year but none of them ever participate. Many ordered t-shirts this year and didn't even come to pick them up. There is a serious committment issue-hence the one time (REALLY SMALL) fee and the punch card to try and generate some loyalty.

So that's the deal with that. I do agree though that Red Riot should be more active, but it is just too hard to do with one person and the time I have. Right now I am so committed to Huskies United because people believe in that cause.

RE: Paying for membership??
I just want to know if this 5 dollar membership fee is going to go back to the Red Riot or is it going into the athletic departments pocket. One of the things that always kind of upset me is that they would use the Red Riot name to generate funds, but not invest that money back into the Red Riot.

I would assume the $5 would go to help paying for the t shirt.

Now that I am graduating I just hope that the HASF staff is better than the staff that was in charge of the Red Riot.

RE: Paying for membership??
It's the age old problem at NIU, and it is called extreme student apathy on campus. It existed during my time at NIU and it exists today. It is a mistake to criticize the leadership in charge of any of these endeavors. You can't lead a camel to water as the old saying goes.
