I was kinda thinking the same thing.

A high level official that publicly chastises and singles out those who disagree with him can be considered a dictator. Calimari did that everytime someone handed him a mic.

I'm glad he did. Someone had to call them out. I just wish more folks did so on a broader scale. Their negativity is a cancer to the potential of any university and, more importantly, any region.

Just because he's gone, doesn't make this wrong. Just because he left in a questionable way, doesn't make this wrong. Being able to accept that there are positives that can be recognized from a negative figure, and being able to distinguish that from the negative taints of that figure's character is an elementary sign of maturity and rationality.

I agree that negative attitudes can be pretty damaging for any sort of collegiate athletic program. Our football program is a prime example.

I've modified my attitude for Tiger sports throughout the last few years to highlight the good and block the bad. I'll support the athletic program in a positive way no matter what.

I do feel somewhat slimy, though, for continually backing Cal. Cal did some amazing things for this program and he should be credited for those things. He took this program to a level that few thought could still be done. Cal was a helluva salesmen and he sold nearly everyone in this city on his style. His constant berating of those who questioned his style (Calkins, Vernon, etc.) did get old, though.

Cal has now stabbed us in the back. He lied about his interest in the Kentucky job, then lied when he said that he hoped the recruits and commitments would stay with Memphis. You can't help but think about those who questioned him throughout his time here.

If thats not positive thinking then I dont know what is. Hell, I'm usually alot more optimistic than most but even I wouldnt ever dare say that Memphis could be rid of miserables, ever. They existed long before Calipari was here and will still be here long after he is gone. If the last 4 years of winning everything under the sun(except for that all important game last April) can't get rid of the miserables in this city and their massive inferiority complex then nothing short of Jesus himself returning as a Memphian can.

RE: What happens to Miserables?
Some of you had negative comments about this thread, then why bother at all just move on to the next. I was just working on a script similar to the subject matter and thought of doing something wacky for a break in between. Anyway isn't it ironic what appears in the CA the following day.

"'The Miserables' are out in full force because they've been in shells and shacks and cracks for four years, so they're out in full force," Calipari said.

The miserables deserve to be called out. A few of them sat behind me this past season. Non-stop yelling derogatory comments about "team Tyreke", yelling at Cal to get back in the coach's box, yelling at Doneal Mack each time he missed a shot. One particularly bad game (0 for 7?) they'd howl with laughter at each missed shot. Yelling for everyoneone to hear...Thats 5!..........Thats 6! etc. They loved to yell out "SHOOT IT HOG" each time Tyreke got the ball.

This is the stuff you do to the opponent, not your team. Perhaps they weren't Tiger fans but if thats true, they spent a fair amount of money just to come down to the forum to trash our team. Fortunatley, as we got deep into the season and winning big, they were more subdued and even absent that last couple of games. To me, they were the worst kind of fans.

Wow, now I understand what that term is about. That's horrible to hear about.

Maybe they were Kentucky fans hoping to get Cal to leave? Or utk fans? I cna't believe any Memphis fans would do that to our team.

Makes me wish I had been there and had kicked their rears out of our arena. It certainly didn't help us any as a draw to keep Cal since clearly Calipari was aware of their presence and had a name for them. At least in the future we can try to watch out for jerks like that in our own arena yelling at our own team and give them a piece of our minds. I really can't believe any Tiger fans in hearing distance of those jerks tolerated it. Of course it could have been the opposing team's fan section? I guess not, since Cal identified them as our own people.

Well, just watch for these jerk "fans" at our next games. It's one thing for the opposition section to be rude, wearing the opposition's colors, but if it's our own fans helping the opposition and trashing our team loudly at a game, give them a good piece of your mind, the scumbags. People should be afraid to come into our arena and trash our people.
