Is your town a football, basketball, or baseball town?
Listed below are the markets with at least two of the three major sports represented. Here’s the game. Tell what kind of a city each city is – in your perception. Is it a football town, a baseball town, or a basketball town? I have put my thoughts. You guys who are from these areas or follow the teams let me where I'm off. Have fun.

Dallas (Cowboys, Rangers, Mavs) fball
Philadelphia (Eagles, Phillies, Sixers) fball
New York (Giants, Jets, Yankees, Mets, Knicks) baseball
Washington (Redskins, Nationals, Wizards) fball
Atlanta (Falcons, Braves, Hawks) baseball
New Orleans (Saints, Hornets) fball
Charlotte (Panthers, Bobcats) fball
Tampa (Bucs, Rays) fball
Detroit (Lions, Tigers, Pistons) basketball
Minneapolis (Vikings, Twins) fball
Chicago (Bears, Cubs, Sox, Bulls) fball
Phoenix (Cards, Dbacks, Suns) basketball
Seattle (Seahawks, Mariners) baseball
St. Louis (Rams, Cardinals) baseball
San Francisco (49ers, Giants) football

Pittsburgh (Steelers, Pirates) fball
Cleveland (Browns, Indians, Cavs) basketball

Memphis is a basketball town and a football/basketball recruiting hot-bed.

Memphis football is supported WHEN IT WINS...basketball will always have support here in Mempo.

just my view...

Go Tigers!!!

I would say Cleveland is a football town. They just have an awful team.

Also, I might argue Detroit is a HOCKEY TOWN, but basketball is a good guess.

Boston is tough to decide, they viciously support all three major clubs. I'd say Larry Bird is the most loved athlete is Boston, though, so I'd pick bball.

For the most part I agree, but it looks like you just picked which team is the most successful.

Detroit is definitely a hockey town and I disagree with several others.

Detroit is definitely a hockey town, not a basketball town. I'd also think Indianapolis would be a basketball town when you take into consideration all the amateur basketball in the state of Indiana.

RE: Is your town a football, basketball, or baseball town?
Miami has got to be a football city and Chicago loves their baseball (maybe make baseball and football even there at best)

I live in Atlanta and IMO it's not a baseball town. It's more of a football town (especially when you throw in SEC football)

i would say Memphis is a college town...

NOW, Memphis fans, by far, control the city...

but you have LOTS of Tennessee and Mississippi fans.

actually, Memphis is the largest concentration of Mississippi alums...

you also see a TON of "I was raised a UT/Miss/Miss State fan but support Memphis when we're not playing"

the one i HATE are the "WOOOO i'm the biggest Vol/Rebel/Bull Dog fan EVER"

you ask em "when did you graduate?"

they say "oh, i didn't go to school there."

you ask em "when were you last on campus?"

they say "oh, i've never been"

then they say "oh, but my daddy was a big fan but i went to Memphis"

don't like those folks much.

Go Tigers!!!

Hoops. Football for the $EC carpetbaggers who can't find employment in their school's city. After all, there is only one Walmart in Oxford.

Atlanta is ALWAYS Braves!!! (over 2MM attendance per year, every year for many, many years).

We tend to drop off the Falcons if they are not winning, or we have to deal with Michael Vick.

Hawks are so-so & the Thrashers (NHL) not much.

Yes.

And in terms of the emotional measure of the town, there is nothing close.

If Tiger football had a national title contending season it would be way up there.

Anyone that hints that this town is anything else is fooling themselves. Some utk coverage, some missippi coverage, some grizzle nonsense and there are a lot of football fans here...

But...

The Memphis Tiger basketball program is the king.
