There's conference football revenue, and there's gameday revenues. Home games are profitable. That's why guarantees are offered. Why sacrifice them and a greatly diluted share? Setting a purely arbitrary and likely low number like $500K in net revenue (yes, minus the guarantee) from each home game, let's run the numbers.
A ninth football school would cost each team not just $400K in conference revenues every year, but also $500K every other year. That school would have bring in $5.2 million in net revenue every year to make up for that.
Attendance can't make up that large of a difference. The data that's out there suggests there's little impact to attendance whether BE teams are hosting conference, non-conference, or FCS schools. In fact, Syracuse saw more people through the gates for a FCS opponent in late September than they did for Pittsburgh the next week or any of their BE home games.

Another problem for you when it comes to college football finances is that you actually believe institutions report accurate data to the federal government.

Why am I not surprised. 03-lmfao

There is so much fudge room in how the data can be reported and what goes where that there is no way the reports we read about are accurate. The ultimate goal for the majority of institutions when reporting Athletics $$$ to the government is to have as near a balance between expenses and revenues as is possible.

Report too much in revenues and academia cries foul because they are not getting their fair share. Report how deeply the AD office may be in the 'red' and academia cries the institution should get out of football.

The other aspect is where to show the money. Booster club and alumni donations as well as conference revenue can be reported in various places on the form. Some choose to parsel it out between football, basketball, and others sports while others place it in "Other funds" areas.

Cheers,
Neil
