Thanks a lot, Georgetown. They lost to St. Johns 64-59
They will now be the only team for us to lose to that did not make the NCAA Tournament...and be the first team with a below 50 RPI to beat us in the past 4 years.
(I do expect UT to make it due to high RPI and #1 SOS)

They also won at UConn after playing us.
Very strange what's happened to them.

Wow. Just wow. How the mighty have fallen.
I can't help but think they just simply gave up at some point. They have way too much talent on that team to have lost all the games they've lost since December. They beat us and UConn for crying out loud. How can you beat two of the best teams in the country and then lose out like they have?

What a complete tank job. It's a good thing that John Thompson III lucked out two years ago, when the officials blew the call against Vanderbilt, or else he would really be feeling the heat right now.
I guess the only positive to be gleamed from their loss, is that maybe our fans will finally stop crossing their fingers and toes for a 1 seed. It ain't happening, and that's fine.

What a shipwreck. The Hoyas have more talent than they showed this year.

First Cincy, then Georgetown. I hope Seton Hall does not make it the trifecta.

I SURE as heck haven't forgotten that game! I along with a ton of my Vandy friends were outraged at losing that game.
Can you imagine now how Georgetown fans are feeling?? That have to be just flabbergasted by this season.

I have heard more than a few rumblings our of D.C. that the many of the Hoyas' players are sick and tired of the Princeton offense as implemented by Thompson III. Most of the players want to change the pace of their prodding and predictable offense but The Third is forcefully resisting such change. Hence, the tank job IMHO.

Well let's not get so full of ourselves that we don't remember when Cal first got here and we started out rated in the top 20 even top 15 Wagner's freshman year and really had chemistry problems and had a hard time getting enough quality wins. We are a little spoiled as of late, but that Wagner team and the Darius Washington led teams underacheived according to preseason expectations each time. Yea, we all know there were legitimate reasons, but let's be fair. I think John Thompson is a quality coach and solid recruiter, but let's also be honest that the Big East is a relentless league to go through with chemistry problems and a lack of on court cohesion. It has happened to us in the past. So let's not bash a quality program and act like we are Kentucky fans.

They're not schedule to play in any pre-season tournament in Puerto Rico, next year, are they? No wait, 'Princeton offense on steroids' is just a metaphor.

I'm not sure what you thought I meant but I'm talking about teams we played that are losing on the first day of the BE tourney. I wish for our sake that they would win.

We can be fair and look back at that Memphis team, realizing that we simply weren't all that talented.... at least, not compared to the squads we're currently fielding. We know now that neither Kelly Wise nor Chris Massie were pros, Earl Barron was a headcase, Duane Erwin and Arthur Barclay were marginal division 1 players, and Anthony Rice and Antonio Burks were unheralded recruits who worked very hard under Calipari's tutelage. To be honest, that group had one very young, raw and inexperienced NBA talent, surrounded by role players.
I see many of the same qualities in this year's Georgetown team. If they all returned for another season, there's no doubt they would be much improved.

I don't think anyone was putting down Georgetown or John Thompson III. I know I wasn't. That didn't seem to be the point of the thread at all.

I think we're just commenting on Georgetown's preseason hype, then big wins early (beating Memphis and UCONN is huge) then completely falling apart. Just the facts.

It's funny. I called gtown a weak team right after we lost to them and got grilled by a few folks saying they were good. Bet no one defends them now. Again, they are weak, what is the surprise? Had we been mature enough to handle the officials, we would have beaten gtown at gtown.

The thing that pissed me the most about the Georgetown loss is that even though they had a high ranking, I knew that they weren't any good.

Three McDonalds All Americans and a Jordan Classic All American... This was a pathetic ending to a team that handle Memphis and Routed UConn on its home court...There were rumblings in the mid season that this athletic squad was not that enamoured with the Princeton style offense. Look for JT3 to change or modify his offensive scheme next year.
