RE: Sports Monster
I listened to that also. Always thought Smith was one classy guy the way he handled himself during a game.

And a caller right after that segment suggested that ETSU had the "most talented team in the SoCon" and asked why we were losing games(?). You could tell from their responses that Kenny and Bobby both like Coach Bartow and weren't going to make any negative comments about him!

RE: Sports Monster
If cumulus radio were smart they would extend the coverage area for the Sports Animal in Knoxville to cover the Tri-Cities in the afternoons. They'll talk more about ETSU than Meade will. Had Coach Torbush on the other day for quite awhile.

If they were as cheap as they used to be 640 would be broadcasting 3HL from Nashville. Good local radio is a good thing to have. Bill Meade isn't good radio. The ratings project that.

Bobby had 4 guests today. John Goode (Crockett coach) Tony Skole, Mike Rader and a guy from a national colllege baseball coverage/ranking site.

RE: Sports Monster
That's good stuff. He knows how to do a decent show. Caller friendly, organized, lots of outside experts on. I wish he could get John McClane on a regular basis for you guys for NFL and even some college football talk. The guy knows just about everybody in the business. He should also try to get Jim Wyatt from The Tennessean on a regular basis.
That's good he does the high school coaches, too. It seems according to what you're saying he does something ETSU related every single day he's on. That's outstanding. It may not move the needle like UT and Va. Tech does, or the NFL for that matter, but for that market it's worthy of at least 102 segments daily.

RE: Sports Monster
That is the difference between Bobby and Bill. Bobby plans his show, he has segments, he has regular spots but when something comes up he moves to cover that as well. When Gordon announced he was retiring he got Ray Everham on a couple of days later, when Bruce Pearl came back to town he got him, When Dean Smith died he got Buzz and even today, They announced Mike Rader coming back to ETSU and had him. Baseball starts tomorrow so Skole was a good one, District basketball tournaments are starting so Goode made sense, college baseball in general is starting so that expert made sense. Bill just rambles on about the same things everyday and has the same callers.

This whole thread is hysterical. We are arguing over which bad radio host is the most bad.

"Preciatchya holdin' on, you're on tha monster."

"BILLLLLL!"

"Whaddya say, Instagator?"

"Oh not much, what I wanted to say, and I'll say this, then I'll hang up and listen...."

MAKE IT STOP!

I strongly disagree, Bill is a bad radio host, Bobby is actually a pretty good one.

Bobby Rader does a nice job. He would be an improvement over Doc, Jeff, and Heather on WNML. Bill is bad radio. Has been for over a decade. Ratings reflect that, but the GOBN keeps him employed.

Obviously you're not part of one or you'd know. But to help you, the Good Ol' Boys Network. Clearly to survive up in the Tri-Cities media market you need to be a member.

Bobby also works the Lady Vols and UT Football games. He is the one back at the station (in Studio) who gives scores and talks about what is coming up in the during the pregame shows.

Bobby has great guests and he runs a well organized show. However, lets not forget what a huge Dave Mullins fan he was and how he would quickly shoot down ETSU football talk when callers would bring it up during that time frame. He has great credentials, but they are UT credentials. I'm just saying I think we need an ETSU guy on the flagship station and he is definitely not one.

RE: Sports Monster
I think Bobby was probably misinformed through the propaganda that came out of the spin zone there during Dave's time. I doubt highly he ever took the time to really look at that situation and see it for what it actually was.
I'd leave Bobby where he is, take Bill off completely and replace him with someone younger. I know who should do it and would be great, not just for ETSU but would be able to hold his own regionally and nationally. He would just need help, a three man show with this guy hosting along with Gerald (The ex athlete) and someone from the media field that has credibility but isn't afraid to bust balls either, when necessary. The formula works (See: 3HL, Midday 180, Sports 180, whatever the afternoon drive show is called in Knoxville). Honestly they should look at someone like Erik Ainge to do that. And if Bill wanted to stay on, put him on either 10-noon or noon-3. Caller friendly sports radio has shown that it's a proven winner. Bill still is convinced he's Paul Finebaum. I guess they had classes together at UTK and perhaps that green eyed monster is in full effect.

RE: Sports Monster
I would love to have a person that is well versed in ETSU sports and really cares about them. He does not of course have to be exclusive to the Bucs but more talk about our teams would make me listen a lot more. I remember when Chip Kessler did the show I thought it was great and I listened almost daily. With the current person we have someone who will go the entire three hours and never even mention the Bucs score when we played the night before. Since it is on the flagship station of the Buc Sports Network I consider that unacceptable.

Sending it directly to the station in Gray is useless. Bill is his own boss, basically.
Go the corporate route, dig until you find that contact and be thorough in why you think there should be change.
