I sent a second email right after the game that simply stated that "tonight is the reason we believe - Go Bucs."

The best thing any publication could do is direct themselves and give us some publicity.

What, they are afraid of constructive criticism?

I'm going to make a very detailed post about my experience in Nashville in a day or so....but I just wanted to say that when all hope appeared to be lost....the Bucs came back!

I'm not saying the fans turned it around.....but what could the fans do if they were truly motivated to oust our current administration?

Good question. We saw what could easily(?) be accomplished when paulie backed the pharmacy school and got out in front, promoting it and putting it on the front burner. I think most of us know if he *really* wanted football back like he said, the same thing would have happened. Moreover, football would never have been dropped if he had publicly let the true plight be known. If the (supposed) campaign to save football that only raised $58,000 in, what was it, *five* years, had been a *real* campaign, with him promoting it and getting behind it (a la the pharmacy school), then we would not have lost football. No way. And Jo Ann Paty has to have some of the blame for this as we've discussed, for not publicizing it.

But, to Gold's question......it is far from unprecedented for a college president to be removed because of student uproar. It happens. But it usually happens over more of a moral thing than football. I myself have no problem painting his stance as disingenuous, at the very best. But with the apathetic students at ETSU now, I think this would be a tough, tough, sell. I would, however, be in favor of it. There is a significant "silent majority", to borrow a phrase, on campus, who are in favor of his removal, but I think the prevailing opinion is that he is "needed" to guide us through this current financial morass.

But you said "fans". That's a whole 'nuther thing. We all know money talks, but it would take a huge amount of it to get the Board of Regents to go for that. I don't think the financial/political will power is there. When you have the state legislature of TN voting, unanimously, that there should be football at ETSU, and it doesn't get done, then the will power to force the issue just isn't strong enough - at least not yet.

But let me take this opportunity to applaud Goldfinger and Buc2002 for the obviously successful campaign, and furthermore to thank the members of this current team for their faithfulness and diligence, even when things seemed dark. I especially want to thank the seniors for the years of wonderful. stirring competition. Best of luck in the future, INCLUDING IN THE NCAAS!!!!!!!!

IMHO, I think this whole thing could be negotiated to a reasonable solution for both parties now if either side knew what they were doing.

Let's look at interests for a minute - both sides would like to see ETSU athletics succeed, both sides would like ETSU in a better conference, and both sides would like more student and alumni support. Based on these common interests, I think a deal could be worked out if you could find a way for ETSU football to make money without "taking away" from the other sports, and without a student fee. There are options out there, no one has spent enough energy looking.

If you go by Dr. Larimore's presentation a few years ago, having one or two extra students in a class that also play football, would actually make money for the school. I don't have the figures in front of me, but how do you "lose" money from having an extra student fill an empty seat in an auditorium? You gain all that tuition money (often out of state), yet have little to give in return. The scholarship costs should figure very little into the equation because you're only filling an already empty seat. Wake up folks...

You're wrong. Both sides don't want the things you are talking about. Details are coming soon. I want to stew over it a bit first.

Gold,

I don't think you are right about people wanting "different" things, but I'll get to that in a moment.

I do want to point out that this was a successful campaign in many ways and was led by those on the board. However, this was also a campaign that was embraced by the current administration and supported by them as well. That's what really made it unique and different. Handing out the chant signs, having the kid on the floor with the CP sign, just all the signs in the building -- it happened because for once everyone came together.

In the future, if football comes back that will be the way its done. Campaigning AGAINST other ETSU fans will only lead to division and weakness. Campaigning alongside with a plan that benefits all is a much better way to proceed.

I will say that everyone on here does deserve a huge pat on the back. It is hard to say how things might have been different, but it certainly does seem to have at least helped the team regroup and realize everyone still "believed" in them.

Just my humble opinion.

2002 for some reason your post got me all jacked up! The reality is that we may or may not have made a difference, but it is nice to know that we may have helped some! It is also good to note that you are correct, it was with the support of the current administration (even if the idea did not originate within).

It is great to be a buccaneer!

I agree ETSUFan. It is indeed a great time to be a Buccaneer. And our part in the team's turnaround, I think, was as obvious as it will ever be for a fan to have an impact on a team. It was just awesome.
