RE: Great moments in FIU history.
What is hilarious about those videos is that the entire student section turns their heads back towards the video screen to see it, and every time they play it it gets an applause. It's like we could have just installed a new jumbotron at the old stadium and everyone would be just as happy. lol.

RE: Great moments in FIU history.
That's incorrect and there's even a post about it on your board posted by FIU Fanatic. Maybe you didn't see it.

Well, since FIU...and our recruiting... is one of the favorite topics in this board, I will chime in, as usual respectfully.

First off, as I've always mantained, judging recruiting just by the "stars" assigned by these analysts is a flawed proposition, particularly if you take that element by itself. Also, many or some of these players will not even set foot on campus, or fizzle within a year or two and drop out. Who the player is recruited against, again by itself, might be a better element, but flawed as well. Looking at both together is better indicator, I think, but, again, not a perfect indicator. It's not a science, however, many of these people indeed do their job and evaluate players to reach their "star" rankings, but it is way too subjective matter to absolutely assign total resolution as to who recruited better. However, there's no doubt, all other things being equal, that you would get more excited if you get a "5-star" player than a "4-star" player...and a 4-star over a 3-star...and a 3-star over a 2-star....however flawed this ranking is.

I don't know where the notion that FIU has always outrecruited FAU with better and more players with higher stars started, and has popularized here on several threads, but it is simply a fallacy, if you look closely. Under Strock we had good recruits, just as FAU had good recruits as well, but if you look at it closely and objectively, you will find out that before Mario Cristobal arrived FIU and FAU recruits on rivals based on stars were on the same basis. Actually, looking at what rivals.com has in their database, any objective observer would say otherwise....that FAU had more and better ranked players, based on stars ranking, than FIU.

Hardly facts support that FIU "out-recruited" FAU since the advent of our programs. Let's look at rivals and recruits and stars: Under each school the numbers of players signed listed and in parenthesis the number of 3 or 4 star recruits listed as signed.

Code:
Year              FIU                       FAU
2002              1(0)                        1(one 4-star player)     Advantage FAU
2003              0                            0                               No Advantage
2004              2 (0)                       2 (1 3-star player)        Advantage FAU
2005*            8(0)                        6 (1 3-star player)        Advantage FAU  *started IA,thus more recruits listed
2006             24 (0)                      20 (0)                         Tie                  Last year Strock recruits
2007             18( 1 3-star)             17 (1 3-star players)      Tie                 1 and half month with Cristobal coach
2008             24(4 3-stars)             21 (2 3-star players)     Advantage FIU  1st full recruiting year of Cristobal
2009 (partial) 23(1 4-star, 5 3-stars) 25 (2 3-star players)     Advantage FIU

True, but only by one or two guys at most. In the past, the difference was only marginal. The last two years, they have recruited significantly better than you guys, and I think that will show up on the field over the next couple of years.

RE: Great moments in FIU history.
The other thing about the recruiting classes is that before we had a coach who couldn't develop the players, now we have a legit system from lifting and conditioning to coaches on the field who know how to win and how to teach. I don't believe for a second we have been pulling in talent like we are right now. And I definitely know our coaching and strength staff have been making a big impact on our guys. The attitude is a lot different around the team.

Like I said FAU doesn't have too much longer, there is a huge difference in recruiting at FIU now than in the past. FAU really did not get anyone besides Henry that I give two you know whats about. And we got a couple guys for the d-line that were way better than him anyway. There was a reason we told him not to come to his scheduled official.

That's the point I was trying to make, and I think it will show up this year. If I had to bet on the winner of next years shula bowl, I'd pick FIU.

RE: Great moments in FIU history.
If we lose a sunbelt game this year, it will most likely be at FIU. They played us tough last year and this year will be no different, in their new stadium to boot. We have FAU and MTSU at home. If ULM is good next year, we have the benefit of having them at home as well. A trip to ASU will be tough as well, though FIU seems like it could be more dangerous at the moment.

I think what you guys are doing with your program and stadium down there is great, and somewhat similar to Troy's rise to greatness. So keep it up! and the new stadium looks like it will be great! 04-rock

RE: Great moments in FIU history.
FIU's biggest struggle is in building a fan base. The school is doing well to build its products, but many of the students and alumni seem to only care when UM is involved. That's a shame. Miami is a very fickle sports market, and one whose demographic variety makes certain sports less popular than one might expect.

FAU just gets its done, despite many challenges. But fan base increase slowly (still has a long way to go) each year. Admit it. Most here would have though the Owls would be waxed in the Motor City Bowl. Most 'Belt teams would have been blown out.

If FAU can get the stadium and Innovation Village started by the spring (that's the word), it will be able to build on its momemtum. Recruiting (and I'm not convinced Sunbelt talent is properly reviewed by the scouting companies) will follow.

That old FAU coach has developed a great system, with great support, and has never lost a bowl game. 'Enough said.

And Troy will not lose in Miami this year.

This is should help this thread out some. Actually though I have alot of respect for FIU and their fans. I had the chance to talk with some students from FIU after the game in Troy this year and they were nothing but a class act.

"I was about to go down the elevator and get in that thing!" hahahahaha.

1. FIU is a joke nobody cares about your school you have 10k more students then FAU and an on campus stadium but you still AVG. less attendence.
The FAU-FIU game this year was an important game for BOTH teams with a possible bowl bid for both team about 17K were at the game 15k were FAU fans.
2. You love to talk about your coach and he is a great coach but if you guys do go somthing like 7-5 this year he will be going to a bigger program so fast it will make your head spin and you will be starting over again.

RE: Great moments in FIU history.
owlcountry... seriously, just quit while you're behind because you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Have you heard Mario Cristobal talk about FIU? Seen the kind of passion, fire, drive, and vision he has for this football program? You don't know a darn thing. Have you been to our stadium to see a game? No. Yeah attendance could be better, we are working on it. It is Miami, after all. When we start to consistently beat down everyone, people will come. But please, you're the last ones to be talking about attendance, because with all your success, you sure haven't exactly garnered much of a fan base either.

In any case, from 2009 onward FIU dominance begins. All signs are pointing to it, momentum is in our favor. After struggling to find our way in the Strock years, we are finally back on track, which is what FAU and the other Sun Belt schools have been fearing. Game over.

You are making fun of FIU English courses while at the same time writing the comment above. Here's a tip, while trying to put down another school's English program, you might want to write in proper English. Here let me help you out:
