If UALR and stAte are on the same kid, he will be a higher star rated player if Brady signs him instead of Shields or visa versa.

I'm not sold on Brady either. He is a good recruiter so maybe he'll land the equivalent of the Sun Belt's Tyrus Thomas and Big Baby and get his chance to win big and get the hell out of Jonesboro.
It could be worse, try living in Little Rock.

I love to hear stuff like that. Having worked for +10 years at a company with offices in many towns ranging from 2 to 200 over an area of RI to FL to NM, it always makes me laugh at their perception of Little Rock. It is even better to hear it from people living in BFE.

If an office goes down, I used to be the one that got in a car or on a plane to go fix things on LAN/WAN side of things (for those that don’t understand that, it translates to I fix things at ground zero. If you go dark you get me). So, I am in Oklahoma City in an office of 200 bringing them back online. I walk the office to spot check things and some of the locals ask about how bad it is to live in Little Rock. They would not dream of moving to Little Rock for a better job or way of life.

Now, Little Rock is a beautiful and Oklahoma City is an Arm Pit. Little Rock has tons of white collar jobs and Oklahoma City has Sonic and a couple of calls centers (like India or someplace like that). Little Rock has a large medical community and has manufacturing and Oklahoma City, like Jonesboro, has nothing. No one that has seen some of the country has ever been to Oklahoma City or Jonesboro and said, wow this place is pretty and I would like to live here that does not own land there.

My wife and I have lived in Houston, Chicago, Memphis, Miami, and Saint Louis. I would not want to live anyplace else. The only way that I would be willing to move to Jonesboro, yes I have an office there, would be if you gave me a choice of living in Texarkana or Jonesboro.

Your point is well made. I have heard several prominent people who have moved here from other parts of the country say that Little Rock is the best kept secret in the country. We have most everything here you could ask for. Symphony, Opera, Great Repertory theater, movies, D1 basketball, Great minor league baseball, and wonderful places to eat. We might not have as many of everything as a huge city, but we have some of nearly everything, and it's much easier getting around. It's a great place to live. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else, and I'm not a native. I grew up in Texas, and have lived in Pine Bluff, Ft. Smith, Houston and Waco, Texas, and believe me, Little Rock is great.04-cheers04-cheers04-cheers
I personally don't really have a problem with LR but, I get sick of you guys acting like Jonesboro is the pits. Jonesboro and NEA have a lot of good things going for them and it's a good place to raise a family.

I don't know anything about Jonesboro. Can't say anything bad about it. I just enjoy Little Rock.04-cheers

Sorry, I felt like you did but did not flip this situation in my mind before I posted. I am sure the NE Arkansas appeals to the people that live there and that most would never want to live in a metro area (little rock being a small metro).

I guess I am still a little closed minded about living in small populations. I am from the Magnolia/Texarkana area and the only way I can see living there is if you on land or business but even that was not enough to hold me there.

If I move to jsb today, my only choice of employment, that would not big a huge pay cut and standard of living cut, would be to go to work for one of the hospitals or maybe the college. I would think most of the grads for stAte face the same problem and move to Memphis or Little Rock (unless they have a family business or farm.)

I am sure that raising kids and schools are good up there but don't have the choices that Little Rock or a metro have to offer. My oldest is in kindergarten this year and learning German at the local elementary for international studies.

Then there is my perception of small places and small life experience. My kids have been to 6 or 8 different countries in their 5 years on the planet. When I go to small places, like my home town people life experience is so, well, small.

So, it takes all kinds. I thank you for feeding me and growing cotton so I have clothing. I hope you like your Alltel cell phone.

I too have lived and spent time in many cities, both here in the States as well as Europe. We moved from Princeton NJ to Pine Bluff AR many moons ago, and Mom says she still wears a "cultural neck-brace" from the whiplash.

Admittedly, Pine Bluff is not jonesboro, but it's close.

Little Rock is awesome.

I've been to Pine Bluff and you couldn't pay me enough to live in that place.

+1
Spent way too much time as a child there in the 70's and 80's. I had relatives all over town. My mom's parents lived up the street from the then-new convention center, My dad's family lived in Watson Chapel. I had aunts and uncles scattered in various subdivisions. There is nothing I miss about that town. And I hear it is even worse now. I know people who live there now and either are tied to the area due to job and family or have found a vocation that makes it worthwhile for them. Out side of that, no dice.

ASU's coach could care less what UALR fans think of him. Ask most ASU fans and they'd tell you they wouldn't touch Shield's as their coach. While Brady's team hasn't put up the wins and may not even make it too Hot Springs for the most part they've been in most all games until the final buzzer. No one really expected much out of this season.....so lets see what next year brings. As for ASU fans turning out for Hot Springs next month that's up for grabs. Most arn't rushing to buy tickets right now. I had myself planned to go over for the entire tournament but am at the stage of canceling my plans.

How in the world can you even say Jonesboro is close to Pine Bluff? Guess it's a comment one would expect of you. Jonesboro is a thriving community...it's growing by leaps and bounds as is ASU. What can you say for Pine Bluff and UAPB? Little Rock is awesome but Little Rock doesn't turn around UALR.

Living in Little Rock is great if you can afford to send your kids to private schools. It is a well kept secret to most folks in the USA. Having lived in large metro areas of the East I'd say Little Rock has ever thing they offer just on a smaller scale and much more accessable. Jonesboro has them beat hands down as a good place to raise a family and does have jobs that pay well for college graduates. ASU is a campus University and I see UALR as a city University...much different animals. Little Rock is our State capital and central located so all in Arkansas can enjoy it. Jonesboro, Fayetteville, etc. can't say that. Little Rock also has Jonesboro beat hands down on fine eating establishment...none chain owned.

So you decided to put your kids in Little Rock School District. I remember the good discussion on the old board about determining if you wanted to put them in the Little Rock School District. I'm high on the Little Rock School District. For an urban public school system the Little Rock schools are good. True it has its issues, but if you are an involved parent you won't have trouble. Most people that talk bad about the school district do not have children or are not involve with the schools.

My son is in 6th grade and he has already taken some Latin, Spanish, and French. He has taken a trip to Huntsville, AL to NASA. He is in an engineering club that will compete tomorrow in an event at UALR. I could go on and on.

I think my son took that trip to Huntsville, twice. I went as a chaperone once. It was a great time.
