Vs Belmont
4 point game under a minute to go; we can't buy a foul shot.

Court looks sweet on TV!

RE: Vs Belmont
Blow a 21 point lead, total melt down, end of season.

Coaching and game/clock managment could not have been worse. Belmont goes on a 30 to 9 run to wipe out a 21 point Camel lead.

Wow, I don't know what to say.

I need a beer after that one and CU is not even my squad.

A meltdown like that is inexcusable.

RE: Vs Belmont
I am the most disgusted I have ever been after a home game.

Losing that lead against a team we had beat and are better than in my opinion is ridiculous.

Byrd stretched that game out and is a masterful coach. Our coach should hold his head in shame. He was out coached. He just stood there and watched Belmont run the same play over and over again. All we have to do is make 1 out of 2 free throws and defend the three - give them the two point layup every time and there is no way we can lose the game. We don't defend the three. Brick shot after shot at the free throw line and don't even change out out of bounds play so we keep putting the same guys on the line that keep missing the same shots. Laing just stands on the sidelines and watches like he is in some stooper or something. Byrd uses all his time outs and then creates five or six more by running players in and out constantly and coaching and calling plays the whole time. Laing just stands there and watches. We have the deepest bench in the league and he tries to play 7 players down the stretch. How could the other guys have done any worse. Byrd plays everyone in a uniform and they all end the game with 4 fouls. He did a masterful job and his guys played with all the heart in the world. That is why they have been to the NCAA tournament for the past three years and we aren't even anywhere close to being able to go anywhere. Outcoached and outplayed the last 6 minutes of the game.

My prediction is that is the season. We won't even win another game the rest of the year. Not even against N. Florida.

Another thing - the stands were full and finally some excitement about CU basketball. You don't mind losing and to Belmont is not that bad but the way we lost, the attitude of the fans as they left the game. They let all the air out of the building. There won't be enough fans at the game on Monday night to fill up Carter gym.

Season over in my opinion. I hate to say this but some changes are going to have to be made at the top if we ever expect to contend for the conference championship. All the talent in the world but no heart and poor leadership. I really can't say the words that I feel right now about the egg we just laid out there on the court.

If I was Laing the guys wouldn't even need to go home tonight. We would shoot free throws from now until the sun came up. Any player who even acted like he wanted to complain could pack his bags and head down the road. I would forfiet the rest of the games before I would take the floor like we ended the game tonight. Belmont ended our season tonight. The bad thing is Belmont is not even close to the most talented team I have seen this year in the league. ETSU and Jacksonville could run circles around them. They are just the most disciplined and well coached team I have seen all year. And they have heart and don't give up. Congrats to Belmont on the comeback.

Well said Camelfan and thanks. You should know I was very concerned about this game, and after watching it, was very impressed with the improvement of your program. That was a totally different team than we saw just a month ago and at any time since I have been following this league. I'm not so sure about a change at the top as there has been such improvement. Not that it matters but I agree, there is a chance the team could go in the tank the rest of the way. However, if they can get it back together, there is enough talent to make a run in the tourny. I'm not sure I would have thought that before tonight. Good luck the rest of the way and I hope you can keep playing like you played the majority of the game tonight.

Well, a day later and I still can't believe it. Did we end the game with any time outs?

Agreed we just saw a coaching clinic; their coach was unreal in how he managed the clock and got exactly what his team needed to win the game. Our worst play was the inbounds turn over after the time out. How do you come out of the time out without a play drawn up to get the ball in play?

If it makes you feel any better....ETSU fans know first hand what it is like to have superior talent and a big lead only to blow it in the final minutes in ways that leave everyone, including the victor, scratching their heads.

I have been pretty much non existant in replying to anything this season but have been watching these posts all season. Finally others have been beginning to see what I have been seeing for the last 4 years. Laing needs to go after this season he is continually out coached and has proven that he cannot get the program passed less than average. He has scheduled the weakest non conference games ever the past couple years and still cannot get it done. Stan the man AD needs to clean house with both the mens and womens programs if he doesn't he needs to go too.

I want to know how this collosal BU comeback/CU meltdown ranks in NCAA basketball history. Has to be in the top 5 of point swings in the closing minutes.

Remember, Campbell has played great for 157 of the past 160 minutes worth of games.

Let's just hope it works-out that this loss was the pill the Camels needed for the rest of the season.

RE: Vs Belmont
Even if we had beaten Belmont by double digits, we probably would have laid an egg against Lipscomb in the next game. That always happens to every team after a huge win. I wouldn't call this season over just yet, I'm still optimistic Coach Laing can get the team to a winning record in Atlantic Sun play. We still have a favorable schedule, with most of our games at home and one of the road games at North Florida. Let's see how the team performs against Lipscomb, and if we win tonight and at North Florida later this week, we could head into the Jacksonville game winning 5 of 6.

I don't know what kind of pill that would be losing a 21 point lead in the last 4 minutes or so of the game. Maybe arsenic.

I hope you are right. I fear that this could tear the heart right out of the team.

There is really no excuse why we did not change our defense, defend better against the three and give them the layups or come up with a better inbounds play on several ocassion that what we did. And of course if you make your free throws it is all a mute point. We did the only thing we could do for them to win. We got out played and coached.

If they come out vowing to play hard for 40 minutes and not let anything like that happen again for the remaining games, then that would be the "pill". You never know, it might be a blessing in disguise.

We'll find out tonight with the Bisons.

I think it was arsenic. We were never really in the game tonight. I think Belmont may have just ended our season during the last 4 minutes of the game last Friday.

Being outscored 30-9 in the last few minutes of the game is not a rollercoaster. It is falling off the cliff.

May be time to get a new captain for the ship. If we can't have a winning season this year with the talent we have and the weak schedule we are playing we have a real problem.

I am just pointing that out. I am well aware of the ups and downs of the Camels. When is this going to stop and we are going to build a program that can contend in the conference.
