Yeah, I'm filing your opinion right in the shitter.

One of my buddies was an MP at the main airbase in Afghanistan. He's the one that told me most of the people sent to gitmo were just random goat farmers. He said someone just turns in someone else for like $5,000 but there's no way to tell if they're telling the truth. They're not battlefield captures. They really don't take many prisoners because people they fight usually get killed. He also said that the "enhanced interrogation" techniques were pretty crazy. The interrogators would strap prisoners to the hangar ceilings for 23 hours a day. A few of the prisoners he had to guard were sent to gitmo. The whole thing left a sour taste in his mouth. He's in law school now.

I'd say that EXTREMELY hard to believe. If they couldn't keep abu grav a secret, what makes you think that they were getting away with doing that. I'd call BS on your buddy and if he is going to be a lawyer, you might remind him that it is a crime of conspiracy and obstruction to not make a full report when he personally and first hand witnesses a crime being committed.

I'm confident it is a violation of his oath... and of the UCMJ... which would probably keep him from practicing law... which is why I say he exaggerated...

I'm sure he saw some things that looked bad... especially if out of context.

I'm trust my buddy. He was fairly high up for an MP as he did ROTC and got sent there during law school. MP's do some patrolling/raids, but most of his time was guarding prisoners. I think he was a captain, but he might have been a major. Basically, he made it sound like Abu Gharab kind of stuff was common and orders came from above. It's not a few soldiers getting out of hand. I don't know whether he reported it or not. Knowing him, I imagine he did. He's conscientious.

He had some awesome pictures of Afghanistan though. It has a lot of natural beauty, kind of like alaska. The only problem is the people.
