I don't think the A-sun as a whole is on par with the college of charelston.

I think if ETSU were in the SoCon..we may finish second....we may finish third....it would be a real race for second.

There is a level of physicality that the SoCon enjoys which the A-sun just doesn't have.

I also submit that Davidson is not unbeatable come tournament time.

Evidence????????

Facts???????

Because all of the evidence and facts in the world suggest that Davidson will go uncontested through the SoCon tourney. Which teams do you think have the firepower to upset them?

Davidson is the best team. However, College of Charleston could beat them.

How do you figure? UTC is 7-12 vs D1 schools with losses to Wofford and Elon, and Davidson just beat them on their home floor by 22.

Yes but how close did UTC get on Davidsons floor? How quick we forget these things.

I don't think Davidson is as good as they were last year. Don't misunderstand me...they are very good and will likely win the SoCon tourney. But it isn't certain.

I don't think they'll be making it to the elite 8 this year, but I could see them winning 1-2 games in the tourney.

Davidson barely beat Samford today at Samford. Both teams were very cold - probably defensive pressure. Curry went for 20
Also, Elon beat C of C.

Belmont beat FGCU by 18 down there.

Illinois St. narrowly beat Bradley.
VCU stormed back to take Hofstra.

C of C only scored 8 (that's right, *8*) points in the first half against Elon. At one point they were down 26-2.
Lowest half in the shot-clock era for C of C. Previous record was 14.

That's simply incredible.

I'm sorry but CofC is no better than JU or ETSU. I stand by the statement that without Davidson, the SoCon is the ASUN.....this year anyway.

My two cents...

That's always the way with the ASun. "If it weren't for..." or "Without ...."

Does a year ever ever ever come when the ASun is better than anyone other the the historically African American conferences?

Well this year we are 26th in the Sagarin. We are better than the Patriot, Ivy, and Northeast.

The Southern is 24th.

I see.

I'm asking - and don't know the answer to this - is that usually the case at the end of the season?

We only have four years of history to go on in this league. I don't think we've met an adequate statistical "sample" to reach the conclusion you obviously want, Kev.

How I hope the Southern ultimately finishes below the A-Sun. Maybe then we won't have to hear this ALL the time. Listen, we all agree the SoCon would make a better home for many reasons, including rivalries and stability, but it's not significantly better or different from the A-Sun when it comes to men's basketball.

Actually, I wasn't trying to reach any conclusion. I know how I feel - as do you.

I was asking a simple question. Has the ASun ever finished higher than 28th? I don't know the answer. Maybe it has.

I agree with that. C of C has done nothing impressive this season, losing to garbage Elon proves that. I really wish ETSU had played C of C in the tournament up their earlier this year because I think the Bucs would have came out with a win. I've said it all year, if ETSU was in the Socon this season they would without question be the second best team.

RE: Holy crap, Curry is incredible.
I'm would say they have finished higher than 28th. You have to remember this league once had CofC, UCF, Troy and Georgia State as solid programs. It was not unusual to see the SoCon, OVC and A-Sun basically always finished from 18th to 24th, with each having better years than the other.

Certainly the switch from those four teams mentioned above to ETSU's joining the league along with a quartet of D-II's in 2005 and 2007 has hurt the A-Sun. But its my understanding that the low RPI is something that's happened just the last four years.
