RE: Miami
Could be, PH, but I'd hate to think David would feel the need to get something OK'd. He is, after all, a member of the press. That having been said, sports journalists had to watch what they wrote about Woody Hayes and his teams, or risk being banished from all official access. I'm not, of course, implying that Ford is in any way like that nut, Woody Hayes.

Just a random thought, I very well could be totally wrong, and if so my apologies to Dave C.

To bad the cheerleading no-shows didn't include the Screaming Banshee. One of the pluses of a large crowd is it drowns out her shrieks.

Don't ruffle my feathers on here bro. I have to stick up for Heather. I did it with some people complaining about her in the MACC lobby last year too. No one, and I specify NO ONE, has as much Kent State pride as that girl. I mean has anyone been to every men/women b-ball and every football game from pre-game to well after the game ends??? Its probably easy for people to anonymously name call her from a fake name on a message board. But I would rather listen to her carasmatic screaming, than people chanting B-S at a bad foul or dropping F-Bombs from the stands in the name of "supporting their team." If only 10 Kent State fans had the dedication that girl does.

RE: Miami
There are varying degrees of truth in all of the posts here. My observation is that this team has a very low BB IQ. There is enough physical talent on this team, even though there are shortcomings. Our success has been generally built on good seniors giving leadership. Playing Mia, with its very high IQ, brings this out in spades. For us, one senior is suspended, another gets 4 turnovers, one by dribbling off his foot for petes sake, and its hard to know who the others are if any. Since Simpson was not going to play a lot, I would have like to have seen Greene in the game. We can nit pik Genos coaching, but that is not fruitful and may not be valid. We do not know all of the issues, as it is obvious that this team is just not a team and there are issues. We will win some games, but more losses are down the road. 03-banghead

RE: Miami
I apologize for the statement on the dance team. I reread it and it was too personal in an effort to be funny. In general I think the cheerleaders and dance teams have become way to prominent. By the end of the season the routines taking place almost every time out etc gets a little annoying. I should have said it that way instead of pointing out 1 person who really doesn't annoy me anymore than the whole concept.

Alpha flash not to mention many wrestling meets, volleyball games, gymnastic meets, baseball games, etc etc

First time Carducci was tougher on us than Elton. He said we played pretty good defense until the last few minutes!!

Some desultory comments:

I didn't read Ellen, but if he was being rather kind on Kent State it must be because he thinks they are down this year. That is his style.

Burden, I know what you are saying about the cheerleaders and dancers. For me, there is too much of a sameness among all the schools, too. Smae type of songs, routines and etc Very lttle unique anymore. Plus, I hate the official time-outs, too, which started as TV time-outs long ago, then became media time-outs. I mention that because that is also when the dance teams do their routine. And why still have the "two minute warning" in pro football???? The original puropse for it ended decades ago. Anyway, there WAS one dancer, circa the Elite 8 year, that I would have PAID to see even if the teams were awful.

So, the Cardinals are in the Super Bowl. Who's next before the Browns ever make it, the Detroit Lions???

Bye

The way the Browns organize, Kent has a better shot at playing in the Super Bowl.

well after a day off, i got to thinking, we had to win the mac tournament anyways, so we might as well start fighting as an underdog, plus we have a number of extremely winnable games ahead to raise confidence, so, Go Flashes!

RE: Miami
I'm glad that most of us have decided not to crack on the dance team, at least on a personal level. Considering the fact my daughter was on that dance team year before last, you never know who might be offended.

Funny thing having a daughter attend Kent. I sometimes call on KSU for business, usually see the architecture group in Lowery Hall. I bring my divorced, 30-something engineering specialist with me sometimes and when we get on campus, his tongue hangs out of his mouth like a cartoon dog thinking about a juicy steak. I tell him not to look at any females because one of them might be my daughter. He thinks that is hilarious. I, oddly enough, don't. 04-chairshot

As far as the game goes, I agree with GFlash68. I am afraid this team, currently anyway, has a low basketball IQ. And that weakness was exposed by Charlie Coles's program. It seems to me that perhaps what Geno has in front of him would be difficult for the most seasoned coach to fix. Maybe the parts are good, but they just don't fit together well. A Ford axle doesn't fit on a Chevy chassis. Geno may have to start bending, cutting and welding pieces to create a working vehicle.

don't be so sensitive its nothing personal, no one called anyone ugly, fat, stupid, etc.I use to even joke around with the dancer and cheerleaders about how overly excited and happy they are all the time, on the other hand i love superfan but lets be pefectly honest she is annoying 10 more of her shrieks would bust my ear drums along with every window in ohio lol, but she is the most committed fan ever, and her intentions are good!

I have seen her at every sporting event except softball. I love her enthusiasm and dedication but I have to agree with the way she goes about it. I couldn't get out of my driveway on saturday so I had to watch the game on tv. There were times when she was louder then the annoucers. In defense of the dance team last year they were nationally ranked so they must have done something right.

They'll never match the powerhouse that is the Miami dance team...

Boy its a sure sign that we are back to mediocrity when a thread about a nip and tuck game with the preseason favorite turns into a discussion on Superfan and the dance team.

Let me get this back on track: can Superfan hit a freethrow?

A national ranking for dance teams is like being in those "Who's Who" books. You buy your way in.

Hey, we don't come in your forum and make fun of your dance team. Now, shoo!

I don't want to make this a dance team thread...but since we are on the topic, ours is terrible. There should be some sort of weight standard though. I don't say that to be a disgusting pig, but like in sports, you need to be in shape and have good athletic abilities. Our girls do not. The last two years have been pretty bad. I agree with an earlier poster though, I believe it was the 2001-02 - 2003-04 seasons where there were some stunning co-eds on the team. Not this year. Our cheerleaders were also much better in past years, again though, the last two years have been pretty rough. What makes me scratch my head is...KSU is full of "talent"...just walk through campus when the students are in...we can't get 15 or so of them on the dance team?

I would use this argument more relative to our marching band, or is that a rubber band? I mean all 30 horns. 03-banghead
