Jake Christensen leaving Iowa
Says he's considering FBS and FCS schools and dad says he already has 4 scholarship offers. I know he's from Lockport, could we be one of the offers? Do we even want this guy? He was terrible at Iowa.

RE: Jake Christensen leaving Iowa
I think the only way he could play at another FBS school is via that rule where he's already graduated and the new school offers a graduate program that's not available at Iowa. He redshirted one year and played three at Iowa. If he went to a school outside the rule noted above he would have to sit out a year and his eligibility would be done. Do I have that right?

RE: Jake Christensen leaving Iowa
The only way a team could use a QB like Christiansen is if you had a Senior starter last year and you feel you have a good team coming back but no experience at QB. Then taking a flyer on Jake would be ok. We will be rebuilding next season, Christiansen would just retard the development of our next starter. Next season, Harnish, McGrady are only RS Sophomores. Rogers is a RS freshman and Hill and Lynch are true freshman. Hopefully, with 5 young players, one of them will pan out to be a great QB. Renting Christiansen for the year does nothing.

I don't think he'll mind sitting out a year considering his dad made him take 8th grade twice so he would be a year older than everybody.

Didn't NCAA drop this option last year?

he's terrible! no way does Kill bring him here, keep developing Harnish, Grady, Rodgers, and the 2 freshman coming in this year. Christensen has been WAYYY to over hyped since high school

Will probably end up at SIU or ISU depending on who needs a QB the worst. WIU is another option...

RE: Jake Christensen leaving Iowa
This article says it is not possible for a D1 player with one remaining year of eligibility to transfer to a FBS or FCS school, so presumably Christensen is looking at D II.

Didn't Jake take snaps when Iowa beat NIU?
If you say he sucks, do we suck lite?
I don't see him in a Huskie unnie.
Whatever became of the ND transfer to NIU to Cincy?

He's going to get a chance this season - but it looks like he's going to have to learn to love the bench. There is some serious QB depth at Cincy.

It's rather amazing to consider what serious noise some midmajors even like Cincy have made in recent years.
When is NIU's turn? 2010?

Cincy is in a BCS conference. May not be a powerhouse, but like Northwestern, they will win their conference every few years. Not a mid major.

RE: Jake Christensen leaving Iowa
I am a NIU football fan but can't claim to know much about football strategy and don't follow it as closely. But in terms of overall program building I'd say it would be a poor decision to use a scholarship on him. Build the program with youth and build for the future and for longevity of success. It seems that both football and basketball are willing to take some lumps the first couple years to do that and I think it is the correct way. It may not make some fans happy with the instant gratification they want but it's just the way it is.

The BE isn't all that tough and with just 8 teams, Cincy will contend for the title almost every year. Now that they're a BCS team they will get the next slice of OH talent after OSU and ahead of our MAC brothers in OH. They've also worked IN & MI well.

RE: Jake Christensen leaving Iowa
I forgot Cincy moved to BE in 2005 and that it's an 8 team FOOTBALL conference.
I still have not committed to memory all the teams in ACC, WAC & Mountain Conferences.
This old mind doesn't assimilate stuff easily anymore.
NIU is 1-1 vs Cincy but was pummeled at home in Sadler's last season.
Bearcats have come a long ways in a short time re: football.
BE may not be anywhere close to a premier BCS conference but it's a light year ahead of the MAC & why Temple, for example, once booted out , sought refuge here. Owls have done a tad better already than I first expected.
They may become the next Buffalo. That would be a second kick in my Huskie nutz if they succeeded before NIU to win MACC.

For Cybes, Cincy's days in the MAC seem like yesterday.

Now that's Funny.
Cincy was a charter member in the MAC shortly after I was a glimmer & twinkle in my father's eyes. Actually I was two years old when the league was founded in Columbus OH with Wayne State, Western Reserve, Butler and Cincy as original members.
I cannot find the year Cincy left MAC nor in what other conferences has the Bearcat program been a member.

From what I can gather: After the MAC, they were in the Missouri Valley Conference, then the Metro Conference, followed by a few years as an indy (and possibly in a group of teams called the Liberty Bowl Alliance??), then Conference USA before finally gaining BCS admittance by joining the Big East... yes, I'm bored at work.

Christensen has contacted Illinois State about a possible transfer. I think he would do pretty well at the FCS level.
