Start Foster at the point.
I'm lobbying for Lionel Foster to become our starting point guard. I don't think we can win with either Patterson or Stevie at that position.
But with Foster playing the Graber role of setting up others to score and playing good defense, I think we have a chance.

Stevie and III are our shooters. He can get them the ball. Fowler can score, rebound and play defense. Patterson can play defense, rebound, and score a little around the basket, and Edwards can rebound some and score around the basket, along with Burton as his backup.

And let the guys run. As Jimmy Dykes said last night, the best 3 point shots come off the fast break in an open court before the other team can set up. So we try to fast break on every possession. If the other team gets set, we just pull it out and start the offense. That's the style of play I would like to see, along with probably most fans. No offense, but I know some of you are still living in the Eddie Sutton days, but that day is gone. It's not the way basketball is played today. Let's get into the 21st century. We're not Princeton!

I remember after the preseason game in Hot Springs I suggested that Foster should be the starting point guard. Sure we would have taken some lumps at the beginning of the season but he would be seasoned in time for conference play. From the stands at that exhibition game it was clear to me that he was the best eligible player for the point position.

You certainly weren't the only one to feel that way. But throwing him in at conference time may rough. On the other hand, didn't Newell insert freshman Paul Springer at the point halfway through our dream season which culminated in us beating Notre Dame?

My biggest concern with Foster is his shooting. Graber could hit the outside shot when he needed to, I'm not sure Foster can keep them honest yet. But that being said, I'm not sure he's ready for 25 minutes per game but it's certainly worth giving him more of a look.

That is my concern too, but he does have the ability to drive to the hole for a layup or kick out, which he is shown that he will pass to the open man.

I'm glad so many of you see the same qualities in Foster that I do. He is unusual for a freshman in that he has a strong body, which usually takes a couple of years to develop. His shooting isn't great, but he can get to the basket and shoot or dish. I didn't think he was ready early on, but the way our other point guards have played, I think it might be wise to pull the "Paul Springer" and put him in there.
