Rice scouting report
They likely will start a front line of 6-10, 6-8, 6-3. They live by the 3-point shot, and they do it well at 37% as a team for the year. Fully 38% of all their attempts are from the arc (compared with only 29% of our shots). They are very poor defensively, allowing opponents to shoot 46% overall and an abysmal 42.5% from the arc. III and Stevie ought to have big nights. They do shoot FT’s well, so we don’t want to get into a foul contest. They take very good care of the ball – positive A/TO as a team. They do get beaten on the boards by a couple per game.

They have beaten Cal Poly, North Florida, Texas State and Harvard. If they are unusually hot from the 3-point arc, it could be ugly. Otherwise, this is a game we ought to win.

I responded to Slatton's blog post today regarding Rice (awaiting moderation). So in case it does not make the cut, here it is:

This is the game the Trojans need to win emphatically in order to put any doubts away about their ability to put teams away. They need to not let them roar back like ORU...or Pepperdine...or ASU...or NIU...or (gulp) Harding(exh)...
In second halves, we are 4-5-1(tied Memphis,). Add in Harding and we are 4-6-1. Just a few years ago I was bitching about our slow starts and digging a hole, now it is reversed. Be careful what you wish for, especially where Shields' teams are concerned.
And for the record, yes that is a criticism of the Shields regime. He has yet to put together for us the "complete package": scoring, defense, bball IQ and consistent effort.
