When you reply to a post use the reply button in the bottom right corner of the message instead of the quick reply box at the bottom of the entire thread. The full version of the editor will pop up. A full edit screen will appear with a box full of animated smililes or "emoticons" on the left side. You can click on the smilie image you want and the code for it will appear whereever your cursor is placed in the text editor. The codes are basically words in between colons. When you post it the image will appear there. For example the word "rimshot" with colons typed on either side like :this: will make Rimshot appear. I found that one after I clicked on the "get more" link at the bottom of the smilies box. A popup window appeared with hundreds more and the code you use to get them.

Also, smilies should be available when you select start a new thread

Edit: I had to edit the original post because i did not put a space after the end colon. oops

This is the whole reason for the move, an edit button. I have needed an edit button for a while.
