One thought on BSU not playing BSU (actually both).

Too bad Ball State couldn't play Boise, BUT some day everyone will remember that Ball State went 14 - 0 (let's hope).

No one in a few years will remember who #14 was.

It is better to beat an ACC team in Detroit then lose to Boise in Boise and be forgotten with a 13 - 1 record.

As I've said before, if a team goes undefeated, they should hang a "National Champs" banner, print the t-shirts, and count it. Governor ought to make it a state proclamation, too.
In this case it might even get some more folks riled up since Ball St is close to NCAA HQ.

It would make some people angry, but there's really nothing anybody can do about it because there is technically NO "national champion" according to the NCAA rules. There is a BCS champion, and an AP champion, but no national champion.

In fact, if BSU goes 14-0, I would hope that not only does the school and its fans declare themselves the national champs, but the MAC offices make a press release calling them that, as well. Let the other undefeated schools and their conferences do the same thing. The more controversy, the better.

Interesting to read all these comments. There were several threads on our board (since deleted because of personal attacks), and we have a large segment not at all pleased that we chose not to go to Boise and even more upset with the prospect of playing JUST North Carolina State.

I happen to agree with the decision. I also find it humorous that the Boise fans and even some of our own are calling us pansies (to put it mildly) for not agreeing to the game in Boise, yet no one has any issue with Boise not being willing to come to Detroit.

You guys shouldn't be getting any grief at all.

Ball State's prize for having a spectacular season should not be going to Idaho (come on now, no one wants to go to Idaho) to play another non-BCS team on their home field.

Motor City Bowl is a much better bowl game than Humanitarian.

I don't see much difference between Detroit and Boise, ID. One is in a metro area in the Great Lakes, the other is a bigger town in the spud state. Both are cold places to go.

Ford Field is in a dome. That's why he said warmer.

Has the crime decreased in Detroit? I'd go to a cow town over a crime town.

Seriously, that's the best you got? I'm sure crime only happens in Detroit but not in the lovely state of Idaho.

MCB is a much better bowl, simple as that. 20,000+ more people and NFL stadium.

People don't remember Boise State going to Liberty Bowl in 2004 and playing Louisville in Memphis? When the MWC had ties to the Liberty Bowl, every game felt like a road game.

And what happened to those MWC ties to the Liberty Bowl? You got out of them.

Seems Ball State is wiser for your mistakes. Ball State made the right call here IMO. Take care of the bowls that take care of you.

Good, wait, GREAT to see so many fellow MAC'ers supporting Ball State in their decision. The University is getting hammered for their decision. I am kind of shocked at how angry many of our fans are at the decision.

As many on here have stated, I saw going to Boise as a raw deal, but that's just me. Regardless, "we" gotta do something 1st...

Go Cardinals...BEAT BUFFALO!

I also agree BSU made the right decision....how many of those upset about this would actually have gone to Boise for the game......that's right, not many. BSU will probably take 15K fans to the MCB, and they'll be a very good crowd on hand no matter what opponent they get.

Okie Chippewa Wrote:I really don't understand the number of persons who think the only way for Ball State/MAC to gain respect is to go play on the frozen blue turf in what amounts to a true road game.

Odds are very good, if Ball State beats Buffalo, the Cards will likely play either the surging North Carolina State Wolfpack or the tradition-drenched Notre Dame Irish. And it will be played in Detroit, where droves of Cardinal and MAC fans will attend. Plus, if the opponent is ND, the Motor City Bowl will be a sellout and a record number of television sets will be tuned into the game.

A 14th victory over either of those opponents will land Ball State in the Top 10 of the final poll and they will go down into history in MAC lore. Doesn't sound too bad to me.
Okie, do you know if the folks over on your board calling Ball State are mostly students? Just curious.

But you nailed it in your post there. Ball State is getting hammered for not wanting to play in Boise, but Boise gets a pass for not wanting to play in Detroit.

I like the T-shirt ideas:

"14 - 0 national champs*
(disputed)"

"14 - 0 co-national champs"

"14 - 0 Undefeated
(the rest is all just polls)"

Population

City/Metro

Boise
198,638/635,450

Detroit
916,952/4,467,592

Boise is closer in size to Muncie 118,769

btw I strongly support Testicle Tech's decision. If Boise wants to play them,
do it at a neutral site.
