Could we long suffering football fans actually have a Merry Xmas? Just put on the rose colored glasses & drink some green Koolaid for a minute but could UAB actually go bowling - very long shot but is it possible???

OK, UAB wins out & ECU, Marshall, Mem, USM lose out, UAB ends up in a tie w/ ECU at 4-4 in conference. If I read the tie breaker rules for CUSA right UAB would go to the champ game due to the 2nd tiebreaker rule, head-head w/ conference record being #1 breaker. Now if UAB wins the champ game, it's record is 6-7, would it then be bowl eligable & being that it won the champ game, would then it be the #1 CUSA so gets the Liberty Bowl?

Asking 4 teams to lose out is pretty farfetched. But this is CUSA. Never underestimate the ability of a CUSA team to lose.

Yea I know it's farfetched more than likely it's going to be ECU w/ Mem & USM next w/ Marshall having the longshot at it due to playing the better West teams for it's last 2. But is there hope however slim it may be?

No, it can't happen, because NCAA rules trump conference rules. A team with a losing record, even if it wins its conference, can't go to to a bowl if another team from that conference has a bowl-eligible record.

Also, the conference would probably use that rule to send ECU to the championship game over UAB, instead of using the conference tiebreaker, should your far-fetched scenario unfold.

You're right, after looking around at the wins for bowl eligibilty UAB won't qualify (need 6 for regular season not including any champ game if I read right) but they could get to the CUSA champ game based on the tiebreakers if rules are followed (still an admirable longshot goal) & others from conference would fill CUSA tie ins mostly the West teams w/ ECU being .500 available from the East.

I did start this topic more as tongue-in-cheek in deference to the old regime of always blowing smoke till the last game of the season of the being in the title run til the last game (Everyone remembers "the winner of this division will have 3 or 4 losses" speech every year) but also on the rules/regs on who gets in bowls w/ what record.

If we won out, I'd sure have a Merry Christmas anyway. Though I can't speak for you guys.

It'd be great momentum going into 2009 and be a real sign of concrete improvement in the program. It'd almost be like going to a bowl too with the redonkulous bragging rights it'd impart. I'd have to update my sig to reflect 2008 EAST CHAMPS!

It would also entail having continued our curse at home against ECU, and finally putting to rest UCF's hold over us (like Marshall earlier, we've never beaten them either). Both of which are plenty to play for...

I'd love it. All that would be left would be for me to put my feet up and root for me some Gators in the SEC Champ game.

Banning nothingfaced is the only way he will leave. He reminds me of Creoleman.

Nothing wrong with having alternative opinions on the board as long as they keep it in reason. There was nothing wrong with Creoleman other than the fact that some guys can't stand having someone who doesn't think 100% their way. I didn't like that he wasn't a UAB fan, but he was clever with his bashing and made me laugh. He was a lot more subtle than Nothingfaced. Those that asked for him to be banned are just too thin skinned.
