RE: Don Helman reveals interesting information
The ETSU administration doesn't give a crap about the athletic program, their conference affiliation, adequate athletic facilities with expansion capabilities or having a vision for future athletics at ETSU. If they did why would they do the following?

1. Run off football coaches and AD's who wanted to move the football program to a higher level.
2. Cut all budgets concerning the football program
3. Hire a tennis coach for an AD
4. Drop football
5. Drop membership in one of the best mid-major conferences
6. Hire a basketball coach who was fired from his last coaching job and who was not even in college coaching
7. Dump ETSU into one of the worst conferences in the NCAA
8. Keep coaches (volleyball, soccer, baseball, basketball) that never have had winners
8. For 30 years, let all of the athletic facilities go to pot
9. Lose the marching band program
10. Have the worst looking Mascot in the country
11. Build non revenue minor sports facilities before major revenue producing facilities ( completely backwards)
12. Intertain the idea of building a 5-5500 seat arena (outgrown and outdated before built)
13. Basa? What kind of name and who would ever associate BASA with sports fundrasing.

I could go on but its depressing.

Most of the people on this board have heard, seen and know the problems. Whats worse is the power people at the University and in the community know the problems, but not one of them has the guts to do anything about it.

B-A-S-A. Its an ackronym. Buccaneer Athletic Scholarship Association. So it does kinda say "sports fundraising". It works for UT, they have V-A-S-F, the Volunteer Athletic Scholarship Foundation.

I liked Pirate Club better, but I don't care if they call it the Pink Polka-Dot Bikini Club as long as they keep raising money for scholarships and sports. The more money they raise, the better.

Spot on with the other 12 points though. 04-rock

Been thinking about the new gym idea. If they plan on keeping Mullins/Bartow indefinitely then why would they need more that 5500? With the team being "young" every single year it looks like Brooks gym itself would be adequate for what we have right now. Backwards thinking I know, but we have backward thinking in charge right now. Sigh.

I agree that Brooks would be nice now. It would give the feel of a homecourt advantage. On the other hand it would be more like a high school game...oops!

More capacity is needed because other activities are/will be held in the gym/convocation center, especially if the Dome is eventually demolished. For example graduation crowds far exceed 5500 even since they have gone to 2 ceremonies each December and May.

I was kind of being a little tongue in cheek about Brooks Gym. The University needs a nice, modern facility that puts fans(more than 3500) up close and "on top" of the action. I think that is what Buc fans want and deserve. How long will it take to get it? Who knows?

I understand your point and absolutely agree with Pitt that the last thing the TRI needs is another 5500 seat arena.

While it no longer exists, I always liked the layout of University Hall at UVa. 8000 seats or so if I remember correctly, easy entrance and exit, etc.

"power people at the University and in the community"

hmmm... I'm beginning to think that might be an oxymoron. "power" at etsu is only relegated to people who just won't go away and those that give a piddlance compared to what other athletics programs would consider substantial enough to merit their opinion having any weight what-so-ever
