Exhibition Win
I went to the game last night, and it was such a mismatch that it was difficult to tell anything about the team. Belmont was blocking shots. They were shooting numerous airballs. I believe that I heard Sewanee had 17 turnovers....in the FIRST HALF (Belmont holding a scant 55-11 lead at the break).

Some general thoughts/notes:

- Dansby and Rice didn't suit up due to minor injuries. I was told Dansby had a tweaked ankle, but nothing serious.
- Hanlen shot it well, but I was disappointed with his quickness. He'll be serviceable, but he'll have trouble against athletic backcourts. He was steady and shot well though.
- Baker looked good. He hit s couple of jumpers (at least one three). He was working for rebounds. Made plays inside and out.
- Renfroe took off from deep for a big fast break slam. Conversely, Dotson missed a fast break slam.
- Speaking of Dotson, he was very quiet. They didn't have to play him too much. We know what he can do.
- Dejworek physicially looks like he could be the best center in the ASun. Unfortunately he just wasn't making moves with enough authority against the small Sewanee team.
- Jordan Campbell can simply do it all. That guy may end up the best all around player in the ASun one day, but no one will know it. He can fill a stat sheet.
- Adam Barnes looked really good. Is he on scholarship? He surprised me. He hit some shots. He defended. He looked pretty strong and quick. Sleeper?
- Hedgepeth looked like he'll have a bright future, but I'm not sure about his role on the team.

All in all, hard to say if it was a really good showing or if Sewanee was one of the worst teams I have ever seen. Our back-ups did what they wanted against Sewanee. Lets hope that is good.

Truth be told, the only thing i pulled from the rout was excitement about hedgepeth's defense. Belmont has traditionally lacked an inside threat, and i dont see Mick becoming an offensive scare by any means, but he looked strong inside in the scrimage and against Sewanee.

He doesn't get pushed around inside like Belcher, and plays fundamental defense by keeping his position rather than just trying to push people back like most big men.

-Also, Dejworek is laughable. just being honest.

RE: Exhibition Win
I have a question for the fans of Belmont on this board. I go to Kennesaw State and saw something similar to what you're referring to when we played North Greenville University. The final score from Kennesaw was 90-40 Owls. My question for you is a concern I have about our team. I understand that the exhibition slate is all about getting your team ready and establishing the rotation and what not, but my concern is a question. Is it a detriment to the development of a team playing cupcakes in the exhibitions? Does a higher quality team need to be played to help be better prepared? Perhaps I am just looking too much into this, thoughts?

Escalade..I think that (in our case) it was more of an opportunity for our new guys to get more playing time and practice. Our starting five did not play that much.

RE: Exhibition Win
Northside....as I understand it, Barnes is a walk on this year. I agree he did look better than the average practice player. The talent on this team is getting so deep, it will be hard for him to earn a scholarship however, it wouldn't be the first time.

Escalade...I was wondering the same thing as I was taking in our game against Sewanee. From a competitive standpoint, it's probably better for us to scrimmage ourselves. But I guess this let everybody go through a typical game day experience and a few extra minutes of PT for the new guys. I just hope we dont go into Friday night overconfident as Samford is a very solid team. I'm not sure which is worse, losing confidence by struggling to beat a "lesser" team or blowing out a bad team and thinking your hot stuff.

We will be poised for Samford, i honestly think Sewanne was possibly the only team willing to travel to Belmont to play an exhibition game with us. This was the first time in a few years we have had a home exhibition game and i think Byrd had a difficult time finding opponents willing to travel for a preseason game
