When SID's go bad...
I'm not the biggest fan of Stetson's new SID. Frankly he can be a bit one-sided and editorial at times. Check out this quote taken from Stetson's athletic page regarding Stetson's 60-59 exhibition win over Warner Southern tonight...

"At 2:50 Preston Adams (Orlando, Fla.) hit his first basket of the game after going 0-8, a 3-pointer that gave Warner a 56-55 lead. His second hoop, a finger-roll layup with 55 seconds left extended the lead to three points and it looked like Stetson might drop a game it had well in hand. Cue the dramatic sound track."

Cue the dramatic soundtrack?? Are you kidding me? Is this a report on the game or a movie preview?

And finally...

"After a Warner missed one of two free throws Stetson’s A.J. Smith drove the length of the floor, pulled up, and knocked down a 3-pointer with three seconds left to give Stetson the 60-59 lead. Warner’s prayer shot fell short and the Hatter fans exploded with joy."

Exploded with joy eh? Have you ever read something so anecdotal published by a Division I collegiate athletic department?

This isn't the first time I've seen stuff like this published. I find it amusing and a bit disturbing as well :)

Here's the full link in case you're interested...

RE: When SID's go bad...
Well...the crowd DID kinda "explode in joy" when AJ Smith made that three...I don't have a problem with that sentence but I could see where a phrase like "cue the dramatic soundtrack" might seem out of place (especially in an exhibition game that heaven help us we almost lost to a team I don't think I'd ever heard of before).

That game was really tough to watch. Stetson did not look good at all last night.

That's not so good. It'll get better. BTW, what happened to the other two Stetson fans that used to post here?

RE: When SID's go bad...
I'm currently a little annoyed at the A-Sun SIDS. The MBB composite schedule on asun.org is incorrect. Campbell @ VMI Dec 9th is not shown. After realizing that, I didn't look any further. I e-mailed Macon Oct 14th, but I haven't had a response and it hasn't been corrected. Meanwhile, they post the A-Sun media guide online and the composite schedule there is wrong, too.

One more week until the season starts....maybe they'll correct it before the first tip-off.

Other exhibition games last night: Belmont beat D3 Sewanee by 56 points, Kennesaw State won by 50 over D2 North Greenville and Mercer unfortunately lost by 3 to D2 Georgia College and State. Obviously that last one stings but that happens from time to time, Michigan State and Ohio State both lost exhibitions to D2 teams last year - just shake it off and move on.

To 1883 and others -

At the risk of becoming like the "leave Britney alone!!" guy from YouTube - the Stetson SID's e-mail addy is on their website, why not write him a note with your issues if you have them...would seem to be more productive than complaining about it on a message board it's unlikely he even reads.

Maybe it is better for him to get all of the unnecessary hyperbole out of his system now before the real games start. See? There is always a silver lining.

I thought about that but I don't want to jeopardize future employment opportunities. Stetson is a close-knit community.

I'll stick with rambling on this ill-forgotten message board :)

RE: When SID's go bad...
"In addition to the defensive effort, the good news is that the Hatters shot 73% (8-for-11) from the free throw line. If they can increase that percentage by just a little over the course of the season they will have what it takes to compete for a conference championship in March. Although a tough night from the field, that percentage will certainly increase as the nerves settle and the team adjusts. This is a talented group that will give its fans many reasons to cheer in 2008-09."

Mmmm and the hits just keep on coming....

Wow. I'm a KSU student and that even irritates me. I hate it when writers add a personal slant to a piece. Just give me the facts and that's all. That snippet sounds like it belongs in a place like this, on a messageboard from a fan, not supposedly from an SID or whomever it may be.

You took the words right outta mouth. Thank you! I guess this is what you get when you pay your SID's 35K a year.

I'm sorry but I just can't let this go....

More from our beloved SID at Stetson about our game vs. FSU....

"After driving the length of the floor Smith made a move for the basket and a layup in an attempt to draw a foul. There was plenty of contact yet as was the case most of the night the Hatters could not get a call from the ACC officials and the game ended."

Beautiful! Now we're remarking on how the officials are biased.

RE: When SID's go bad...
I know where you are going and don't necessarily disagree with it, 83.

I will say this. What comes out of the ETSU athletic department is so overwhelmingly biased and one-sided I wouldn't have even flinched at the stuff like "exploded with joy."

Now, granted, you're Orlando Metro so you have higher standards for truth than we do here in east Tennessee, where shoes are optional and generally discouraged.

What would also be discouraged would be the reference that "it looked like Stetson would lose a game it had in hand."

So be thankful for what you have.

Mmmm more brilliance from the SU SID mastermind...
Hatters Fall Prey to Hot Shooting Tigers in Missouri

Columbia, Mo. – This time of year it is better to give than receive. Unfortunately for the defensive-minded Hatters they received a taste of their own medicine tonight in a 78-44 loss to the Missouri Tigers in Columbia, Missouri.

Not only did he miss adding a "to" after "give", but more importantly, I couldn't help but wonder how long he's been waiting to bust out that lame ass opening line.

GO Hats!
