On Friday night starting at 10:00pm you can be a part of the newest tradition at UAB: Anderson Alley.
Anderson Alley, named after head basketball coach Mike Anderson, is an opportunity for Gang Green, students, or any other fan to be one of the first in line for the biggest games of the season by camping out the night before on the lawn between Campbell Hall and Bartow Arena.
Here's how Anderson Alley will work for the game against Memphis:
*Anyone wanting to camp out can begin arriving on the lawn at Bartow Arena at 10:00pm to begin setting up your tent for the night.
*Whoever plans on spending the night will be required to sign a list to register their attendance. This list will be used the following morning to distribute numbered wristbands; the wristbands will save your spot in line at the student entrance (a valid UAB Student ID or game ticket is still needed for entrance to the game). Wristbands will be distributed sometime before 9:00am Saturday.
*Campers will need to pack up and clean up their space on the lawn by 9:00am on Saturday. This mandatory clean-up time will allow campers time to return home for showers and food before the game.
*Campers with wristbands will need to return to Bartow Arena around 11:15am to begin numerical lineup for entrance to the arena. Campers will be able to enter Bartow Arena at 11:45am, which is 15 minutes before Bartow Arena opens its doors to the public. Folks with Gang Green t-shirts or students dressed like crazy Blazer fans (body paint, colored hair, fro wig, green t-shirt/sweatshirt etc.) will be allowed to take any seat in Section 108-109; all other students and ticket holders may have their pick of general admission seats as designated on their tickets.
Other details of Anderson Alley include:
*Food -- Pizza will be provided at 11:00pm Friday night. The 6-foot long Gang Green grill will be burning all night for campers to cook any food you would like to bring (or use it just to stay warm). Campers will need to supply their own utensils, paper products, or condiments if they plan on cooking their own food.
***No open fires or personal grills will be allowed***
*Drinks -- Campers are welcome to bring their personal coolers to keep with their tents.
*Entertainment -- Classic UAB basketball games or other DVDs will be available for viewing on a large screen. Campers are also encouraged to bring their own entertainment - cards, footballs, frisbees, board games, Twister, etc. (no electrical outlets will be available for camper use)
*Camping Gear -- Campers are responsible for providing all necessary camping gear (tents, sleeping bags, coolers, etc.). A limited supply of camping gear is available for rent from the Student Recreation office at the Hill University Center, 1st Floor.
*Bathroom Facilities -- A public toilet and sink will be available at all times in the East Office Tower of Bartow Arena.
*Security -- A police officer will be present at all times to insure everyone has a safe and enjoyable camping experience and will not be there to babysit, randomly search tents, or to "crash the party".
*Dress -- The forecast calls for clear skies and a night time low of 40 degrees. Make sure you are dressed appropriately for the cold weather. There will be no access available to any University buildings for shelter, so make sure you are prepared!
