RE: Ball State 20th in first BCS Poll
If I understand it correctly, the two points by Massey means they picked BSU 24th, not second.
I love seeing BSU in the BCS rankings but I don't know if they have a realistic chance of getting BCS bowl, even with an undefeated season. The BCS will only take one non-BCS schools and I think the Mountain West will be hard to pass along with Boise State. Keep it up Ball State, who knows, stranger things have happened in college football(like blocked field goals converted into first downs-sorry had to included it).

I love the Cardinals, but I don't see how they go undefeated. NIU, CMU & WMU are playing very well this year. The West is absolutely loaded this year. The Cards have had a couple halves when they did'nt play very well but they were still able to pull out a win. If they sleepwalk for a half on NIU, WMU or CMU they will put the wood to the Cardinals.

That's correct. BSU is NOT ranked 2nd in one of the computer rankings. There highest computer ranking is actually 10th.

You are correct. I read that wrong.

RE: Ball State 20th in first BCS Poll
Only reason Tulsa is one spot ahead is because CUSA coaches clearly voted Tulsa high in the USA Today Poll to make their conference look better. Tulsa went from being unranked to ranked #19? That doesn't happen unless the CUSA coaches are being homers. It's too bad they don't make the coaches poll public until the end of the season. It's pretty obvious what happened. Ball State plays in the tougher conference and they've played a tougher schedule to date.
Is UTEP really supposed to be a good win for Tulsa? Buffalo destroyed UTEP and Buffalo only has a 1-2 record in the MAC. UTEP's record is inflated due to the lack of strength in their conference. All of UTEP's wins have come in CUSA play.

If the Broncos don't solve the sluggish starts and the defense situation, then we'll be the ones having a loooong afternoon in Muncie.

I would say BSU to BCS is a possibility at this point.
With BYU's big loss to TCU that drops the bar of the highest ranked non-BCS team considerably.
#11 Utah
#12 Boise State
#15 TCU
#16 South Florida
#18 Georgia Tech
#19 Tulsa
#20 Ball State
The normal line is 12. Ball State should as a 13-0 MAC team finish in the top 12 on high computer rankings with the MAC having a good year.
The second line is 16 if a BCS conference champ is lower than 20 in the polls. Right now that is a strong possibility with weak ACC/Big East. Ball State is almost a qualifier under this criteria.
BSU will need Tulsa/Utah/BSUjr./TCU to lose in front of them. TCU has to play @Utah that will be tough. Utah has to play both TCU and BYU yet. Tulsa is Tulsa.
I am most worried about Boise State running the table on the panty-waist WAC schedule.
It is still very much in question whether Ball State is going to even win the MAC West. Its possible they could go 11-1 and not win the division with NIU/WMU/CMU still controlling their own destiny against the Cardinals.

The advantage for Ball State is that they have NIU, CMU and WMU left to play. Those are the next best three teams in the MAC. Ball State needs west division to keep beating the east.

The MAC West this year is as strong as the Mountain West.
It should be an advantage for Ball State in the computer polls down the stretch run as they get wins and WMU/CMU/NIU get the quality losses.
Let's just pray Boise stumbles and takes the WAC down with it. That will mean more money for the MAC at the end of the year regardless if Ball State goes BCS or not.

RE: Ball State 20th in first BCS Poll
Tulsa plays UCF next, would be great to see our ex conference members take Tulsa out of the rankings with a loss. BSU moved up 4 spots in a week and play EMU next which should make them 8-0 and likely move up again. For the long haul it would be best for the conference as a whole if BSU did end up 13-0 provided they get a BCS bid. A MAC program in a BCS bowl would be an enormous recruiting boost for the entire conference.
Navy did the conference a favor beating WFU and the AFA, too bad they couldn't upend Pitt this week. Would have helped the MAC"s strength of schedule big time with BSU already having beaten Navy and the Midshipmen playing at Temple & NIU in November. Let's hope our "14th member" can spank ND.

It's really too bad BG couldn't knock off Boise. That game could be the difference in who gets a a BCS bid. I certainly want to see NIU knock off a ranked Ball State but the exposure of a BCS berth would benefit all schools. AS good the MWC looks, I am more worried about the WAC given how weak the rest of Boises schedule is. I think the bext game they have left is San Jose State.

Central and Western can help too with wins over Indiana and Illinois. Although IU is probably a wash, since a stronger IU helps the Cards' cause.

But BG is doing the next best thing...by losing conference games, BG is hurting Boise State's SOS. That's putting the conference first ;-)

Fresno could knock them off also if they get motivated.
