I know that MAC teams usually may not attract the biggest crowds, but the student sections almost always come in full force.

Who has the loudest/craziest student fan base on gameday?

Without a doubt, NIU. Sports Illustrated even listed us as the best Gameday experience in the MAC.

I was impressed with CMU football

UB bball has to be among the worst due to all the clueless vulgarity. Please get a little more creative.

I would go with Akron and Toledo for football. I have seen all of the MAC East but only Toledo and Ball State from the MAC West.

In most recent seasons I would put Toledo, NIU, and CMU up there. The one dig on Toledo's is that many of them leave early though, so that might put NIU and CMU slightly above them.

For what it's worth, Ball State had 10,000+ students at their game against Navy. That is more than 50% of the entire student body. Has any other school topped that this year. The Cards have averaged nearly 9,000 students per home game this year.

I would guesstimate that NIU averages around 8-9k students normally. Our East grandstands only seat 10,500 and that is the only place students can get tickets for free. My guess would be that the other 1,500 are season ticket holders (like myself) and guests of fellow students (family, friends, etc.).

I was at the NIU vs. CMU game last season. CMU's student tailgating is very similar to NIU's. What was that chant you guys did every 15 mins or so during tailgating?

NIU used to have the best student section, but then they took away thundersticks and moved the visiting team to the other side of the stadium where students couldn't heckle them.

toledo has a good student section but i don't know if i'd put us above everyone else. the student support and sense of on campus participation is growing at UT. however, football fans are much more vocal than bball. for bball OU, kent, and ball st (when they don't suck) would be up there.
