Appy Not Moving Up Anytime Soon
Cobb: Appalachian not moving to FBS soon

Though he's thought about it, athletic director says, no decision could be made for at least two or three years.

Is Appalachian State – riding the wave of three national titles in the NCAA's Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division 1-AA) – considering a move to the Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division 1-A)?

ASU athletic director Charlie Cobb said Thursday that he has given some thought to the idea, but that no decision will be forthcoming for at least two or three years.

I don't think there was any great hurry to expand anyway. Maybe the belt can nab a few of those new bowl possibilities by then.

RE: Appy Not Moving Up Anytime Soon
I think Appy moving up will trigger some other schools such as James Madison and UMass to take the plunge. It might lead to a formation of an East Coast non-BCS conference, perhaps with Army, Navy, one or two CUSA East schools and choice MAC East school or two plus these newcomers.
