Rhodes say McC was treated well in Viet Nam
Unfriggin' believable... She wasn't in Hanoi with McCain but she seems to be the only one who knows the facts and everyone else is wrong. The VietNamese were known to be cruel to their prisoners and a 5 year imprisonment of any kind while all beat up with broken bones and a lack of medical attention can hardly be called well-treated.

Hear Rhodes claims - 1 minute clip

Quote:Left-wing radio talk show host Randi Rhodes attacked GOP presidential nominee John McCain's life story, claiming that during his POW captivity in North Vietnam he was "well-treated, actually" and that despite his claims of suffering brutal torture, his wife "knows the truth too."

Rhodes' radio program is syndicated on Nova M Radio, which also operates a radio station in McCain's home state of Arizona and calls itself "the future of Progressive Talk."

Her comments, made earlier this month, claim that McCain was "very friendly with the Vietnamese" and that "they called him the Prince." She claims he was well-treated by his captors because he traded propaganda interviews for good treatment.

Rhodes concludes her remarks by claiming that national Republican figures continue to tell a story contrary to her version of the events and that McCain's wife limits herself to saying only "I think what my husband did in Vietnam was heroic" because, according to Rhodes, Cindy McCain knows that her husband's story is exaggerated.

Rhodes' version of McCain's imprisonment and description of it as being "well-treated" seems difficult to reconcile with McCain's version of the events.

In his autobiographical account, "Faith of My Fathers," McCain describes having his shoulder broken with the butt of a rifle, being stabbed in the groin with a bayonet, being refused medical treatment for multiple broken bones and attempting suicide to escape the pain.

"They cracked several of my ribs and broke a couple of teeth," wrote McCain. "Weakened by beatings and dysentery, with my right leg again almost useless, I found it impossible to stand.

"On the third night I lay in my blood and waste, so tired and hurt that I could not move. Three guards lifted me to my feet and gave me the worst beating yet. They left me lying on the floor moaning from the stabbing pain in my re-fractured arm."

Rhodes' Nova M Radio website describes her as "the #1 Progressive Talk host in the nation" and claims, "Randi is impeccably researched and infectiously funny; she pulls no punches and never fails to both enlighten and entertain."

A former host on the nationwide counter to conservative talk radio known as Air America, Rhodes lost her position in April after an expletive-filled rant against Democratic politicians Geraldine Ferraro and Hillary Clinton.

Rhodes also stirred controversy when she urged looting in the hurricane-devastated Gulf Coast and threatened the life of President Bush on air.

Considering the source, what's unbelievable about it?

The Democrats and Liberals alike are running scared. The DNC ran such a ridiculous distortion of McCain's view on Social Security it should be criminal.

McCain recently said "The way we have neglected funding for the Social Security system and have failed to secure the future of this system is disgraceful."

The DNC is now running an ad that says "McCain is so out of touch, he even called the Social Security system disgraceful."

Ironically I think Hillary would have beaten McCain easily.

As for Ms. Rhodes, maybe she should be strapped to a table and beaten with a stick and given no medical treatment and see if she still thinks that meets the definition of being treated well.

Rhodes is an embarrassment, much like every other daytime political radio host.

Here's a clip of McCain calling the SS system a disgrace.

I'm pretty disappointed at the direction the campaigns have gone in their negativity. When you have Karl Rove calling out McCain (and Obama) for stretching the truth, you know you've hit bottom.

What's really disturbing is that they do this because the data indicate that these are the ads that work. What is P.T. Barnum supposed to have said? "Nobody ever went broke understimating the intelligence of the American people."

Please...I could care less about McCain as politician...but...To make that claim is pure nonsense. JM served with honor and I admire him for that.

RE: Rhodes say McC was treated well in Viet Nam
Liberals and the radical left have been a disgrace on Vietnam for 40 years. They gave aid and comfort to the enemy while the Communist beat the crap out of our brave military servicemen held as POW's. They have attempted to undermined the ability of our government to fight any war even if it is just such as the war on Communism or the war on terrorism. The fact that a major political party would pander and nominate a canidate that embraced the feelings of those of Rhodes is shocking. The Democratic party of FDR, JFK is long gone......this new ultra-Democratic party pushed lifetime hawkish Democrats either to the Republican party or to independent status as the case of Sen. Shelby, Sen.Lieberman and others. Do you really think the Democrats would have been able to do the Invasion of Normandy during WWII with Move.on and Rhodes types of today in control of the party. They would protest how FDR got the troops slaughtered and argue that Germany and Italy never attacked the US and that Hitler wasn't a threat to the US. FDR was helping the Brits sink U boats prior to Pearl Harbor and the formal declaration of war against Germany. Democrats love to attack Bush for an illegal war, but they often overlook history. FDR did have trouble like Bush before Pearl Harbor convincing the country to support the war. Prior to Pearl Harbor FDR had terrible approval ratings in his second term. Pearl Harbor was the event that swung popular opinion around. Had Michael Moore been around back then he would have said FDR staged Pearl Harbor to get us into the war. I'm sure Michael Moore and Rhodes think Vietnam was staged so that Jon Voigt, Chuck Norris and Stalone could make money from war movies like their Republicans friends. Vietnam was real and John McCain has the scars to prove it.

Spot on.

Stupidity & ignorance are the hallmarks of radio hosts on both sides of the political spectrum.
