Injuries played a key roll for this game. Schmitt was injured in practice thurs. He probably should not have even tried to play. I give him credit. Our back up has promise, but has a ways to go. Schmitt is a hell of a QB...we would have been much more competitive in this game had he come in healthy. How would Toledo done without Opelt?...Hard to say.
Our starting DT, Palsrok, was knocked out in practice this week as well. Suffered an injury on Tues (yes, apparently they were practicing on Tues). Not sure when he will be able to attempt a come back. This didn't help the situation for Hunt and the rest of the DL.
Our team is small on the edges (and on the inside as well) and built for speed. This is not a team that is going to play up to it's potential in a 4 qtr. down pour. Not an excuse...just a fact. Some teams are better constituted to handle poor weather conditions than others. Toledo, for example probably has the tallest recieving corp. in the MAC. That comes in handy on a crappy day. We are much more competitive on a fast track. I dare say we probably have one of the smallest but fastest teams in the MAC....
No matter how you slice it, it was a very dissapointing game. But, I think the unusual weather and some key injuries had an impact. Maybe we still would have lost, but it would have been a hell of a lot closer. I'm not ready to give up on this season.
No there was no practice on tuesday! I know somebody.

and here we go again: it isn't the coach "it's the fans, it's the players, it's the weather, it's the lack of a practice facility, it's the field, it is everything else! but it isn't the coach!
