Gas Prices - Ike
Is anyone else having their town overrun with panicked gas buyers? In Bristol, TN gas is on average about $4.50 a gallon right now. Its over $5.50 in some places in Johnson City, and over $6 in some of the smaller towns just over the border in Virginia. Gas stations are packed with people out in the street. Anyone else seeing anything like this?

Yeah...Gone from 3.55 to 4.29....Limit of 10 gallons per vehicle at some stations. Supply and demand at work in the marketplace, as it should be.

PANIC!!!! IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD!!!! THERE WILL NEVER BE ANY MORE GASOLINE AFTER TODAY!!!.

Seriously one of the Charlotte area talk radio stations has a left wing morning show and those bozo's started a panic in the city. Many stations are now completely out of gasoline. This morning I found gasoline for $3.59/gallon. This evening stations with gasoline are selling what they have for $5.00/gallon. In Myrtle Beach according to the Charlotte news gasoline is selling for $5.60/gallon.

Un-freaking real!!! 03-hissyfit

I canceled my plans to travel north to watch Marshall v. Memphis. It would have been a $200 trip just for gasoline. I had some concern that if folks along I-77 freaked out like Charlotte I might even get stranded with no gasoline.

OPEC countries don't have a "free market". Do I now need to explain a global commodity to you? 05-stirthepot

BTW, shouldn't this be a reason we SHOULD be drilling? How about answering why your people WON'T LET US?

Why not use the contracted drilling sites that have already been purchased that the oil companies are just sitting on? They'd rather make 5 bucks a gallon on speculated oil.

exactly, drilling won't help. They have a monopoly and they know it. They're just going to stick it too us until we finally force electric cars on the roads.

Your not going to get electric cars until you can convince the electorate it is in their best interests. The Oil Lobby owns the Republican Party. I would bet they send a nice little check at Christmas to guys like Rush Limbaugh too. It's the short sighted people who can't see their hand past their face who chant. Drill BABY Drill. They make the US weaker and our enemies stronger. There is WAY WAY too much money in oil for that monopoly to let it go. You won't get it til you demand it from the majority and we have too many people who think abortion and creationism are more important. Sad really.

A Hot Spot here got a shipment in from a tanker -- topped up all their tanks. They bagged all the pumps and shut down. Rumor is they're going to open Monday at $6.50/gallon. And you better believe if they do I'll be on the federal price gouging hotline so fast it'll make your head spin.

So, your Libertarianism does have a price, and it's $2.50 (6.50-4.00).
