But did you change your mind about submitting to another hour of the Tyra Banks show in the future?

I think Hambone has been captured and is being forced to watch TB. It's the only explanation I know. Perhaps at tomorrow's game we can scratch out a rescue plan in the parking lot.

Hambone, that sounds like a fairly loaded panel... I'm surprised -- but happy -- to hear that some of the girls in such a select group were thinking about the issue more after being confronted with information.

Yes... Captured by Ike.... no power... no water... I left the tv in the hotel on, and it was on at 3am or something (the hours run together)

That's the problem though Tex... one girl, 16 and pregnant with her second child... claiming to have used birth control, including the pill the patch and condoms BOTH times... by that I infer that despite her failure to prevent the first pregnancy... she didn't learn how to use them more correctly... or she's having enough sex to make a 1% failure rate a statistical likelihood. OR (more likely) she lied about using them.

You can't get the pill or patch without a doctor... which implies information... which is also printed on the pill and patch... yet when Tyra asked her if she was going to stop having sex... almost as a frustrated joke... the girl laughed and said of course not... even though she was crying at the prospect of another child and her mother was a basket-case...

I'm sure the panel was loaded... but at least in THIS girls case, and a few of the others... How much more information do they need?? Not saying they don't need info... just that you can lead a horse to water........ but you can't make him wear a condom... or something like that...

One of the girls who did it for the welfare... this one so that she could move out of her house and not be subject to her parents rules... was SHOCKED to find out how HARD being pregnant was... that MAYBE it wasn't worth not having mom and dad's rules because now she had the government's and her doctor's rules... not to mention her bodies... imagine when she has her BABY'S rules... like FEED ME CHANGE ME NOW!!

Now, I've never taken a course in pregnancy... and nobody gave me school credit for a class in child raising... but I can't imagine NOT thinking it was hard.

And until reading Hambone's response, I figured this might be part of the Hambone household abstinence education class...05-stirthepot

I'm not saying information will save everyone... and if you're looking for a good differentiator between stupid and ignorant, asking who wants to be on [insert daytime talk show name here] to talk about teen pregnancy, baby daddies, cheating on your boyfriend with his best friend, etc., may be a pretty good litmus test.

I guess that's why you and I generally agree tex, but seem to disagree.... I'm talking about people whose goal in life is to be on Jerry Springer... and there are a LOT of them... while you're talking about those who might only watch it and laugh...

Jonathan Sadow Wrote:If you don't want to conceive a child or get an STD, don't have sex. That's the rational ideal. Of course, people can be awfully irrational about sex, so that ideal often doesn't get met. Just because that's so, however, shouldn't tempt us into lowering the bar on our expectations for people, given that people tend to live up to or down to them.
No sex is the rational ideal?
I must not be that rational, because that certainly doesn't sound ideal. And no, I don't want to get an STD.

I used to watch JS now and then. I was amazed at the number of people who ostensibly flew across country with their spouse/significant-other just becuase they wanted to break the news to him/her/them that he/she was leaving to be with his/her nephew and/or garbage man.

How do you approach someone with a proposition like this:

Honey, I need you to get off work next Tuesday and Wednesday so we can fly for free to Chicago, because I have some news for you that I will not disclose until we are on national TV. Dinner and hotel are also free. Your brother Bill and his girlfriend are coming too. No questions, now, just go pack.

Yeah, sure.
