It will be interesting to see. I am looking forward to the season and watching our (KSU) new guys shape up. I also have never been overly impressed with "J Rod." Pigram would be my choice at the start of the season.

Depends on if Pigram has a point guard or not. It also depends on ETSU having an inside game to relieve some of the focus that will no doubt lean toward Pigram.

I'm adopting a wait and see policy when it comes to ETSU this season. There are too many unknown factors.

His numbers are amazing - but his team sucked - but think how bad they'd have been without him - but they weren't any good with him either - etc.

Anyway, I still think the most game-changing force in this conference is James Florence. He terrifies me and I wish he didn't still have 2 damn years left :)

Good points. Florence is a stud, no doubt about it.

I think that J-Rod will have some help this year and the team will be better. Campbell had many problems last year with as many off the court as on the court and lost several players. Early in the season they whipped Belmont and Gardner Webb and then the off court problems set in and the team seemed to fall apart and never played up to their potential. That is not excuse because they had a middle of the conference type of year.

Without J-Rod they would not have won the games they did. I think you will see an improvement this season. They are picking up the pace and have some players who are capable of doing this. We will see how the year works out. Pigram and Florence are great players as well. It should be an interesting year.

I've said it before and I'll say it again--- Campbell hasn't had a winning campaign since something like 1994. This year will be no exception when you realize no major changes have been made. I hope with the addition of their new arena they can shake up their team somehow. Whether it's new coaching; or the current coaching realizing what they are doing is not working.

I'll beat the dead horse one more time by saying that J-Rod should produce big numbers (17 PPG or so). But the team will be sub .500. So Pigram scoring 15 or 16 PPG and leading the Bucs to a winning Atlantic Sun record should get the attention.

Campbell is only returning 4 players or so this year. The rest are going to be new to the team so they have shaken things up a little. There will also be a lot of excitement about the new arena. It looks great.

I think they will be better than .500 this year.

We play Campbell 1st game of the year so I looked over their roster to get an idea of what kind of competition our young team would be facing early, & I surfed over here. Reading their player bio's I thought they sounded like they had added a lot of solid JUCO's & had some experienced returners. Pretty small this year, but had a big transfer sitting out, & they sounded like they had some talent. I just have 1 question is Vejraska your starter at center & who do you Campbell guys see the starting line up as.

CWG... I understand where you're coming from with those rankings... I also understand where the official rankings are coming from. Mercer as a whole has been a hype machine for several years with no results in the A-Sun. Until we prove we can hang with ETSU (no wins), Belmont (so many consecutive losses I've forgotten the number, around 9), and win some conference tournament games (1 win since 2002-03, when we beat an 8 seed).

So the resume is pretty bad. Hoffman made a great comment that it's an appropriate ranking based on previous results. That they have to prove their worth.

I agree. I believe there are several reasons why Mercer can compete this year (1) we really didn't loose anyone, (2) I know how good Emerson is (I have been told by people close to the program that Emerson is the best player of the 3 Emersons that have played at Mercer), and (3) the Slonaker era of apathy is over.

CWG, how can you say Mercer didn't really lose anyone - more than 33 percent of the scoring and nearly 25 percent of the rebounding graduated just from those 2 players. Shaddean Aaron (16.0 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 40 steals) and Brian Pfohl (11.2 ppg, 5.6 rpg) are a far cry from nothing.

So by your calculations we still have 67% of the scoring & 75% of the rebounding?

Plus we added more talent and the best coach in the A-sun.

Emerson is that good-we won't miss Pfohl or Aaron. I guess you'll see when Mercer whoops up on Stetson.

We don't have a center. We have a couple of forward and a bunch of guards. Veraska will the be closest thing we have to a center. But I think he is really a forward.

Veraska, J-Rod, Hartley, Dodson and one of the new guys. I will have to see them play the scrimmage game before I can tell. Dodson may not start but he will come off the bench. He is a scappy player. Hartley will play guard and J-Rod and Veraska forward.

5 points and 4 rebounds per game at Western Kentucky. I'm trembling.

The batsh*t insanity of your statements stand on their own and do not require me to refute them. Clearly you're one of those ridiculous "my team can do no wrong" homers you see on so many sports boards across the web; reason and facts are of no use to you if they don't fit your agenda. Enjoy your orange and black tinted sunglasses.
