It was the one armed man!
Can't tell if Obama is pandering or just really that out of touch?
Quote:"In a facility like this, the possibility for injury is enormous," Obama said. He said that in many places, "it's pretty standard to lose an eye, lose a limb, lose a life ... we're going to have a government that makes sure workers aren't put at unnecessary risk."
Barack Obama renewed his emphasis on economic themes Tuesday, pledging to enforce occupational health and safety regulations as president and declaring that Republican rival John McCain "doesn't get it" when it comes to the anxieties that many middle-class workers are facing.
That's all we need is more government regulation on the already anemic US manufacturing base. I have to admit I have seen a lot of people lately missing limbs.

Workplace safety would be easily taken care of in a free market paradigm. Those that allowed workers to be harmed at work would suffer loss of market share and ostracism by the consumer. Private loss prevention is already prevelant in most industry through insurance providers. OSHA does very few inspections. It mostly spends its time investigating accidents.."after" they occur.
Increasing the beauracy of OSHA will not make workers safer...it will just "grow" an already inefficent beauracy.
