Insight into AD Jeff Compher's ways
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/huskies/37...ked14.html

Quote:Former Huskies associate athletic director Jeff Compher was in charge of scheduling during his four seasons at the UW. Now the athletic director for another Huskies program, Northern Illinois, Compher said scheduling has become increasingly difficult because of the parity in college football.

"Guaranteed games (with non-BCS schools) are harder to find and the price goes up," he said. "(Non-BCS teams) shop for the highest payday. In some way I am in that position now at Northern Illinois. Our goal was to max revenue and also maintain a scheduling balance."

In terms of the 2008 schedule, Compher said the BYU and Notre Dame games were already scheduled when he and former Huskies athletic director Todd Turner took over in 2004. Compher moved the Oklahoma game back one year to this season to accommodate a home game against Boise State last season, when the Huskies also played Syracuse, Ohio State and Hawaii during a 13-game schedule.

"If you look at the scheduling down the road, we try to build bye weeks, not 12 straight weeks," Compher said. "We wanted to get home-and-home games with opponents and we tried to do that."

Compher has a theory for why this season's schedule may have turned out to be so difficult and home-heavy. With Oregon, USC and Washington State coming to Husky Stadium during odd-numbered years, the administration tries to schedule tougher nonconference opponents at home during even years.

A little bit of everything in there.

I'm starting to get ticked off that Jeff Compher is invisible as far as I can tell at NIU. Why isn't Compher reaching out or talking more publicly about his vision for NIU athletics? There are underground moles with a better suntan than Compher.

He is too busy studying up on how to provide a "World Class" experience for our 467 student atheletes.

Am I over-reacting on this or do others agree with me? For crying out loud it is mid-August and school and fall sports are about to start.

Who is this Jeff Compher guy?

Oh yeah, our new AD. So easy to forget. If first impressions are important, this guy has failed.

I am with ya alum. The only thing I have heard from him is a recorded message about this weekend's practice.

There just isn't a lot to do publically right now, all our coaching positions are filled, schedules are set up, we just built the A&APC. Do you want him to just hold press conferences for no reason? What would you like him to do right now? School isn't even in, no athletics are going on right now, what exactly should be doing that would be talked about?

If you see the same thing at the start of the school year, i will hop onboard, but it is little early. He also need to move the family and get to know the department. I think we have short memories in that JP did not hit stride until the first football season also.
