Several NATO countries, including Ukraine, or now telling Russia to back off or they might get involved. This is really an awkward position for the US.

Well, crap. Here we go again.

Many in Russia are pining away for Stalin to come back and Putin would love to be the new Stalin, expantionist and bully-boy extra-ordinaire. Unless Ukraine gets involved this will be over fairly soon with Russian having shown Georgia to show some respect.

Yep. The Kildar series by John Ringo veers to the Georgia region for a while, and provides excellent background on exactly what is happening now. If you don't mind a LOT of over the top sex and violence, the research is pretty good.

Of course, Stalin was a Georgian, so maybe Vlad and the boys in Moscow are simply channeling The Boss and decided to go kick around an easy target instead of messing with Chechin terrorists.
