RE: I know! Let's do another expansion thread. WAC 14 anyone?
In a major realignment involvong most conferences, the WAC and Mt WEST merge as follows
Air Force
Fresno st
Hawaii
Idaho
New Mexico
New Mexico St
Nevada
UNLV
San Diego St.
San Jose St
Utah St

This is certianly a very interesting thread. Being a North Texas alum/fan, I have always wanted to join the WAC but only if Boise State, Fresno State and Hawaii were still in the conference. If any or all 3 of those schools were to bolt then the WAC would offer nothing to UNT. Right now UNT is eyeing joining the MWC or CUSA. Obviously the MWC is a conference that is getting a lot closer to the BCS conferences and for regional/travel purposes CUSA would be another great fit for UNT. The only way I see UNT ever joining the WAC is if they added an eastern division and add several teams from our region such as Arkansas State, MTSU, ULL etc. Other than that UNT at this point has no interest in joining the WAC.

Do you think the schools you mentioned really want to be in a western-based league?

Only if the WAC decided to expand and create an eastern league. At this point in time the travel would be way too much for NT even though I personally think the WAC is a better than the Sunbelt currently. However the Sunbelt has improved night and day the last 3-4 years so if the WAC added an eastern division and added the teams I mentioned above then I think they would strongly consider it because I think everybody wants to get out of the Sunbelt ultimately.

Everybody knows that the BE is expanding. UNT will "not" move to the WAC and pay our entry fees "and" forfeit all WAC earnings for three years just to move to C-USA in year four. They're smarter than that.
...and as for the C-USA is doomed? Not even close.
With C-USA's TV deal, we have to remember that CBS Sports only has two D1-a conferences under contract. That's right -- Only two D1-a conferences...and they're C-USA and the MWC -- two mid-majors. I repeat: CBS Sports only has two D1-a conferences under contract, and they're both mid-majors.
CBS Sports is putting up a good "front". But behind the facade, there's very little there. ESPNU already has 3 BCS conferences under contract, along with the SBC, the MAC, and now the WAC. When it comes to content, ESPNU blows the doors off CBS Sports.
If CBS Sports loses C-USA, they'll only have the MWC left in D1-a. How long does CBS Sports survive with only one D1-a conference? Not long once the networks realize that CBS Sports is an empty shirt. So, CBS Sports will give C-USA a lotta cash to remain with them, no matter what. CBS Sports doesn't want to bring attention to what they really have.
So C-USA wont be hurting. CBS Sports will pay them in spades.
The Big east is not expanding and has said so over and over and over again. The message board magpies simply refuse to let this issue go.
These is no reason for much change in any of these leagues. the only big question is how much impact UTSA is going to have coming in. They'll go somewhere and would be an interesting choice for the MAC.

I've visited the following MWC campuses:
New Mexico, Utah, BYU, UNLV, Wyoming
yuck, yuck, disgusting, yuck and more yuck.
It's because the MWC is pulling away from (WAC, CUSA, Belt and MAC) towards (Pac-10, B12, B10, ACC, and BE).
Even the BCS board members are starting to say they are going to 7 leagues. Froymeyer, "I can see us going to 7 leagues but not beyond that."
The MWC is a slam dunk on the next contract. They'll add Jerry's new stadium, the Cotton bowl and the MWC will host the Fiesta bowl.
yeah right..
The cartel isn't going to 7 conf in our liftimes.. its the same ole don't split the pie more ways thing. another reason is market size.. and MWC don't have it.

Did you seriously just reply to a post that was 6 months old? Good God, how bad is your obsession with spreading the gospel of non-expansion?

Citrus, I do not have an obsession with anything. I simply resond now and then to these crazy expansion threads. By the way we are six years past the last expansion and not another has occured. That pretty much vindicates my point of view. There has been no expansion nor will there be.

Didn't the NCAA put a freeze on expansions/realignements after the ACC/BE/CUSA "incident"?

No. The NCAA has no control over conference membership. The only action taken by the NCAA was a moratorium on D2 to D1 and 1-AA/FCS to 1-A/FBS moves while they review the criteria for membership in those divisions. That moratorium seems to have been triggered by Savannah State moving from D2 to D1 and being wholly unprepared to do so from every standpoint important to the NCAA - finances, compliance, academic etc.

the next bcs contract doesnt come up for 5 years.. so the MWC has to maintain itself where it was this year for the next 5.. that is highly unlikely. You are right that there will be no #7 anytime soon. As for all the talk of CUSA losing alot on the next tv deal .. don't count your chickens...

What time frame is it? If schools didnt announce their plans be a certain date they cant announce them now, is that how it works?
For example North and South Dakota State(s) made the jump and University(s) of North and South Dakota (and others) are in the process now and should be full fledged Div 1 by 2012 or so

They had to have filed by a certain date, back in 2007 or 2008. I forget the exact date. But any school that had already announced they were moving up was allowed to continue. The moratorium only applies to schools that hadn't filed any paperwork to start the move-up.

It was the summer of 2007 (June 30th), I think, that was the last deadline for submitting the Division I intention. Seattle, SIU-Edwardsville, Bryant also declared that year. The moratorium was announced shortly thereafter, so schools that were looking at declaring DI intentions in the summer of 2008 lost their opportunity until 2011.
A number of others, like Northern Kentucky, West Georgia, North Alabama, Indiana of PA were believed to be seriously considering Div I at the time.
