RE: Report- Daniel Boone and David Crockett may drop sports
Guys, the political discussion is fascinating(!), but I think we're wrongfully trying to shove on to politicians the REAL issue here.

Remember when Paul Stanton said that Division I-AA teams left and right would be dropping football? They haven't.

Are high schools everywhere else contemplating dropping sports- be they women's or men's, high profile or low?

Not to my knowledge. I'm sure you can find another school somewhere contemplating it, but I don't see it as a trend.

What Paul Stanton and David Mullins have done- not No Child Left Behind, not the politicians- to this community is create an environment where athletic programs are a poker chip. It has trickled down from ETSU to the other schools in the area.

Had Stanton and Mullins been met with the criticism they deserve for dropping football, Ron Dykes wouldn't dare try to pull this off.

But he sees how Stanton and Mullins have gotten away with it, and so he figures- "Hey, why not?"

Dykes even gets his picture in the Johnson City Press. And is it a new picture?

NO! It's a staff photo of him giving us the "Thumbs Up," like he's about to put on a leather jacket and hop on his motorcycle or something.

"Hey! It's a good thing to take away the sports! Education ahead of athletics!"

Just like Pharmacy School > Football Team.

This is, as I have said before, the worst sports area in the country.
