I'm about to record a podcast ... but I'll address this. Dawkins covers that in his book "The God Delusion". That was the work of a small group of people who flat lied and exaggerated all things to do with what happened.

There are Christian extremeists too, you know. They just haven't reached the same level of crazy yet. I take Dawkins stance on the matter ... that all religion to some degree contributes to this by pushing mindsets where some things are accepted as absolute, and reason thrown out the window.

To me - the enemy are the practices commonly found throughout the major religions... particularly the Abrahamic ones.

Dude, seriously? That's all you have? There are Christian-based countries all over the face of the planet. NONE oppress people today. NONE kill people for the lifestyles. NONE demand second-class status for other religions. You talking about the movie? Or the book? In the book it was Islamic terrorists. In the movie, they "PCed" it and made it, well what do you expect, White Supremacists. As for where the material came from, he was right. Not 15 miles from me is the Savannah River Site, who created Nuclear Weapons. Still does. There about the only ones in the country with tritium. Remember, "this nuclear material was produced on the Savannah River"? ...and in the movie, I never saw anything about "stealing" a nuke. Don't remember it in the book either.

I read the book and saw the movie. The tritium came from Russia. Remember the guy was keeping it in a battery but he was assasinated before putting it in the bomb so the bomb was much weaker in Denver than it was supposed to be. The fuel was from a bomb from a plane that was shot down during the 1973 conflict. I can't remember where I put my car keys but i can remember that book I read in college in 1993. Damn fine read.

That's how they tied the bomb. It was a well known secret or worst kept secret that Isreal stole the weapon in 1967. So we didnt start a nuclear war with Russia. We knew the material was ours so Jack Ryan gets on the horn tells the president to stand down. Great book

Really what difference is there between dropping a bomb on a whole apartment complex to kill one 'terrorist' and a suicide bombing. They result in the same thing: deaths of civilians. Not to sound like a Bible thumper, but The Bible says that the holy land (israel, or the middle east altogether) will always be in turmoil until the end of the earth. Therefore, we should just let them be. No reason to fight ANOTHER battle that will be never ending.

And on the Iran stuff, I'm personally conflicted. I feel that we're practically saying "We'll kill you with our superior weapons if you try and get weapons equally superior to ours." Somewhat hypocritical. But, also, I don't want anyone else to get f'd up by their nukes and I almost feel its our responsibility to stand up for others (but only if they can't do it themselves). I know we're cool headed enough to not toss out a random volley of nukes, while I'm not so sure about them. And I think that we should be respected for our superiority (while it is waning in the social and political realm).
