It's good to see WR's "blocking" for the QB off the field too! Seriously, Schaeffer probably took that incident a little over the edge, but we (the public) haven't heard his side of the story. I'm befuddled why Smith would actually step in though (the bat might have provoked his involvment), especially if Schaeffer was whipping Quantavious' tail. Either way, this will probably result into nothing (simple indefinite suspension (to appease those NCAA types) and spring game holdouts) and you'll see those two scrappers dressed out come Sept. 5th.

That would be nice...not seeing them dressed out until the Monday after the game. :D

An incident like this has nothing to do with NCAA rules or the "NCAA types."
It's about how the University of Tennessee wants its athletes to present themselves in public - and how the university chooses to discipline them, if at all, for incidents like this.

actually this incident has everything to do with the NCAA's bylaws regarding sportsmanship and ethical behavior (1997 addition) and the athletic dept.'s compliance officer's job to report any unethical behaviors by the coach and/or coaching staff in regards to these set of rules. Thus, if Fulmer didn't take immediate action, he could have been reported (albeit unlikely, hell Bobby Bowden never got reported for not disciplining any of those fools from Free Shoes U.).
I agree that UT's image and reputation are at stake and that is why Coach Fulmer is so pissed about this whole deal. He stated that he's embarrased and completely apologized to the University, Mike Hamilton (AD) and the fans. However, it's being reported that the incident was provoked by theft and now it's a matter of social responsibility (according to Fulmer) and University representation and the fact that the players and the girlfriend should have called the police.
Yeah, I was thinking of the Ole Miss-Memphis game date, that's all you hear these days in Memphis...did do the Grad school thing at UM. I should have said the 3rd? Yeah, it's the 3rd. Good day fellas, Go Vols.
