Sucher breaks 43-year old record
Link

Quote:Sucher fired a 9-under-par 61 in the third round of the 55th annual Sunnehanna Amateur Tournament of Champions in Johnstown, Pa., to rally within one stroke of leader Rickie Fowler of Oklahoma State going into today's final round.

His bogey-free round shattered the course- and tournament-record 63 that was held by four people and had stood for 43 years at Sunnehanna Golf Club. It is also Sucher's personal best, beating the 62 he recently posted in the NCAA East Regionals.

Great job.

But I wouldn't have used the word "shattered" when it was just a two stroke difference. Anyway, it is nice to think that the record is held by a Blazer.

I disagree. You beat a record that has stood for 43 years by 2 strokes, that's pretty shattered.

Ouch.

He went the other way on Sunday.

"One day after firing a course- and tournament-record 61 at the 55th Sunnehanna Amateur Tournament of Champions, Zach Sucher of Mobile went the other direction on Sunday, posting a 9-over 79 to end up in a tie for 15th in Johnstown, Pa.

Oklahoma State's Rickie Fowler, who led Sucher by one shot entering the final round, shot a 69 to defend his title and win by five strokes."

I guess one can look at it that way. I was thinking more along the lines of stroke differential of about 4 or more. Regardless of the choice of words, it was still great to have another Blazer in the record books.
