MLB's true Aces
every once in a while my dad and i discuss what pitchers in baseball are truly aces, so i thought we'd do it here too.
I think the hands down ones are:
Jake Peavy
Tim Lincecum
Brandon Webb
Ben Sheets
Carlos Zambrano
Johan Santana
Cole Hamels
Josh Beckett
Scott Kazmir
Roy Halladay
CC Sabathia
Ones who i'm up in the air about, because of how small their body of work is, or because of their performance this season. Also, they could be really close but not quite there:
Dan Haren (i'm not sure he could ever be called an ace)
Aaron Harang (Hasn't been as dominant so far this season)
Edinson Volquez (i'd like to call him an ace, but he's only been in the big leagues for a couple months)
Tim Hudson
Justin Verlander (he was last year, but has been awful this year)
John Lackey (excellent pitcher, but is he dominant enough? Maybe.)
Erik Bedard (Hard to say)
Felix Hernandez (i'm leaning towards yes)

RE: MLB's true Aces
Don't you have to pitch a full season (Ben Sheets), before being considered an ace?
I like Peavy, Webb, Halladay, Santana, Zambrano, Bedard and Kazmir if he can stay healthy for an entire season.

Yeah, sheets is a tough one. He's just such a great pitcher that it's hard to say he's not an ace. But i have no problem with removing him from the list, because of his inability to stay healthy. BTW, he has actually pitched one full season.
Also, how can you claim sheets isn't an ace and then turn around and say that bedard is? Bedard didn't pitch the whole season last year and he's missed time this year.
Kazmir is defnitely an ace. i don't think there's even a question. He's the best lefty in baseball right now.
